I had to try though. Here's the setup...

Maybe I should have hidden the truck better? It looks bad but the choices the bear had to approach would have hidden the vehicle until he was 30 yds or so. Coming the long way he'd have been looking uphill into the sun, plus grizzly bears don't really give a crap about stuff like trucks.

My view from 6' off the ground.

I could only stand there for a little over an hour because I'm a wuss now, but there was no sign of anything, not even a coyote came in. I'm glad no one else came in and saw me standing up there on my ladder looking like a dork. A wise man once said there's a fine line between hunting and sitting there looking stupid. : )

Good for you Mike, at least you are trying. G bears can't climb trees right? What about ladders? LOL Good Luck!!

Ya I was thinking that being 6' off the ground wouldn't count for squat if a bear wanted to work me over.

Hey Don, I checked our regs and it doesn't look like I could use your idea. No scent attractants.

The biggest black bear I ever shot up here was trying to get into my camper and I was in it at the time. Not too scared of vehicles sometimes.

Ya know Mike, when you wanted info on calling in bears I had no idea you were looking at GRIZZLY bears. Apparently you don't already have enough excitement in your life. What ever the outcome it'll make for a great campfire story.

Mike,

Maybe you could duck tape a lawn chair to the top of your ladder so you could sit instead of stand. :>) :>) If you are successful, at least you don't have a long walk out to your truck with a heavy pack.

What is interresting about this power line is that over here west of you we can hunt an easement like this - except for the Trans Alaska Pipeline - however, we can't set up a bear bait stand within a 1/4 mile of one since they are considered public trails.

Looks like a good spot to find some hoofed critters walking across.
