Benelli M1 Super 90 problem/question

Was out for the opener and the last shot I took for the day froze my gun. I mean it was locked solid. There was a shell in the chamber and one in the magazine. I pushed every button I could and could not open the breech. It was almost like it was welded shut. I put the gun down and looked at it it for a little while. I picked the gun up and was considering tearing it down. Tried one more time to open it and get out the shells and it opened right up.

Took the gun out hunting yesterday and it perfomed as well as ever. No lock ups at all.

This is the first problem I've had with the gun (other than not ejecting shells completed due to bad spring in stock). Is this a sign of more trouble to come or just a once in a million things that happen to all guns once in awhile. I love this gun, would hate to have it starting to fail.

I had an M1 and it liked alot of oil to cycle consistently. I've had it do the same thing you described, a little oil solved the problem. On the other hand, I had a friend that has one and he never oiled his. After 2 years of no oil in the gun it locked up, I took it apart for him, oiled it and worked flawlessly.

More than likely the "brass" on the shotshell expanded more than normal. As you were looking at the gun wondering what to do, the brass was cooling and shrinking.

They weren't Federal "Blue Box" were they?

If it gets bad, polishing the chamber is probably a good first step.

Kent Fasteel 3" 4 shot. Must have been all that shooting I was doing. Very strange.

I wouldn't try to polish the chrome-lined bore or chamber of a benelli. They are plenty polished already.
