Looking for a one man style boat

Also banks boats are very price and you will also have atleast another 400 for shipping on the small model layout boats

Joe,
fill out your profile and get in touch with the mighty layout boys.

They have a full line of choices.

I could purchase a lake boneville layout by green bay wisconsin
any input on those

I think the banks boats are expensive
also I would need to put it in my truck
or in the front of my 18 foot tender boat

Have to travel 1.5 to 3 hours to open water hunt from my house

Will be hunting in 4 footers for sure

4 footers? LBL are great boats but they arent built for 4 footers I'm not sure I wouldn't want to be in any layout boat in 4 footers think you need to reevaluate what you are doing. Think you might want to look at Tombstones too

on lake superior even on a calm day there are large waves

with no wind 2 footers are common

with 10 mph have been in 4 footers

just want some info on what people think is the best boat

mlb classic or mag

waterfowl works erie or ufo

and lake bonneville gsl

We hunt up to 3- 3.5 footers on Lake Michigan out of the MLB's... providing the duration isn't too short so they are breaking on the boat.

The Bonnevilles look nice.. but I have never been in one.

Thanks phil

were did you get yours from and how much was shipping
also how long do the clear spray skirts last
or would a canvas be the better option

I have been using my 12 foot marsh boat when I go out

Thanks for the help

I bought both of mine used..... They were close enough for me to pick up.

I have the canvas spray skirts.... I don't know about the clear ones....

I bought 1 for $700 and the other for $750... but... it all depends what is on the market.... Watch the classifieds on every duck site...

I would tell you to not rush it... If you haven't found a used one by August, get a new one... but look around for a used one for as long as you can.

Joe take your time, do some research and find some boats in your area to check out personally. Just like buying a new car get in them and see what works best for you. AS for big waves. I will tell you this guys hunt the UFO in big waves and get away with it. here is the problem when your hunting big waves.

If they are short its gonna be a wet ride and when the tender comes to the layout the backwash off the tender is going to put lots of water into the layout. Seasoned vets can do this and understand its part of the game and have sponges and bailers ready for this. IF you plan to hunt these conditions do so in the summer to get prepared for it so its not a huge suprise the first time you put 25 gallons of water in the boat with you in freezing temps.

I have done it once and won't again because even though were hunting in those waves the fact is its quite hard to shoot and hit anything when your bouncing around like a bobber and just not worth the gamble with someones life.

I will tell you the Erie is not capable of these conditions safely. Good Luck with your search there are a few great boats out there to choose from sir.

But it is sure fun shooting the top off the wave infront of you! :)

Tony is right... practice is warm weather.. there is real risk involved. I find the biggest risk to be the transfer between tender and layout.

Find calmer water to hunt in. A lot can go wrong in those conditions. You don't want to find out how seaworthy your tender or layout boat is when you have anchor/longlines wrapped on your prop in 4 foot waves. Accidents happen. Expect them.
