Big Surprise on a Bufflehead Hunt!

We will know in 3-7 days. Called it in this morning

It may be too late now but if you report the band online you get all the info right away and they email you the certificate in a pdf file so you can print it out. I went and got some nice paper and printed mine looks nice. Also you can save the file and print another copy anytime. Just a little info congrats to big Mike also what's the difference or point of the neck band? Are they only on geese? Thanks

Snows and swans have neck bands as well. I'm not sure what the significance or different purpose is though.

I always assumed it was so they could be seen at a greater distance then the leg bands and could be reported more often

I suspect that it is from CT as they have been putting yellow collars on resident geese for several years now. If you know the collar numbers/letter there are a couple of folks on here that can probably tell you when and where it was put on...may have actually done it!

Regardless, it's a pretty sweet thing to put on the wall!

i asked Kelly Kubik about the neck bands when i volunteered this summer, he said they haven done it in a year or too and werent doing this year. he said maybe next year. i have seen quite a few with the neck bands in CT though.

I think they put the neck collar or (like was stated) to see them at a greater distance and you shoot them. If you see the neck band, you know it has a leg band as well..
I saw a Brant today with a neck band on it.

holy cow !!! that's a granddaddy.

some years ago a friend shot one with a collar . had an ice ball froze to it a little bigger than a golf ball.
