Big Wind coming in....

As most of the guys in the Upper Midwest probably know, almost all of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa , Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Indiana are under a high wind watch/warning. I watched the local news last night and the weatherman said that this incoming storm will produce barometric pressures LOWER than those of the storm that sank the Edmund Fitzgerald. If your out hunting be safe…

Yep, easy to get in trouble in winds like that. The bad thing is that the winds are going to be from the south-west and not the north or NW. We had a big wind last year too but from the southerly direction and very few new birds moved in. Still a bit early for many of the migrators though the Cans were working good on the river Saturday.

And to think Tom Scholberg is in the thick of it this week in ND. Hope is is OK.

I know and it sucks that I have to leave for AZ tomorrow morning. We haven't had any birds since the 21st when most of the Cans and redheads left. We do have a few stragler redheads and ringnecks, of course bluebills are here. Most likely it will push northern birds right past here though.

My son and I just got back from 3 days of hunting along the Pacific Coast and saw the wild weather headed your way. Yesterday we had 2 separate squalls come through. Nothing like being on a flooded island at high tide floating in your aquapod while a thunderstorm with 40-50 mph wind gusts, lightening, torrential rain and pea sized hail rips through the marsh. The ducks were flying on the deck during the storms but we couldn't shoot them because we had no way to retrieve them. You couldn't paddle against the wind and I wasn't about to send the dog out to make a retrieve in those conditions. The only thing you could do was to hunker down and ride it out.

Brad, I was out on the coast yesterday with the wind, hail and lighting too. When we left the house in the morning we weren't sure if we would be able to get out hunt where we wanted to. When we arrived the winds were mild but as soon as we were about 100yds from the boat ramp a big gust hit us and the hail. It was like a wall of wind and ice hitting you like freight train. I got nervous when there was lighting but there were only a couple of strikes. Some of the downpours were pretty intense. Fortunately for us the bay wasn't too choppy and we were able to get where we anted and into some good shooting.

good thing ill be in sunny orlando this mid week and weekend wont get to see any new ducks.. heck i havent been out yet. Nov 1 the boat hits the water for the fisrt time............. I NEED TO SEE SOME DIVERS!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed in switches around to the W-NW they are talking about for Wednesday night Thursday Morning. Its teacher conventions Thursday-Friday and my school doesn't require us to go. So, a couple of us are headed to my buddies outside of Kewaunee on Lake Michigan. His farm is right on the water so if its too rough to get the boats out hopefully we'll be able to do some shore hunting. Or we'll try to drive up to Green Bay/Door County.

I hope you are right. I just rearranged my Thursday morning and I had already planned to take Friday off. Here's hoping for another great day hunting.

Definately some new birds in the areas I hunt. I was out tuesday aft and had small flocks working most of the afternoon. Plan on heading out thurs morn as well.

Weather never got too bad on Sandusky Bay. We hunted the marsh and birds worked most of the afternoon. Great shoot with 6 woodies, 2 teal, 2 pintails and a pair of mallards. Must have needed some weather to get them moving. Glad I didn't let the weather "boogiemen" keep me home.
