Black Cloud shells

I know that this subject may have been posted before but I am curious if anyone has fired any of Federals new Black Cloud shells in an actual hunt yet?? I was in Dicks sporting goods and they had 3 1/2's for less than $20 and 3" for under $17, I couldn't pass up the price so I bought 4 boxes. Just wanted to know if they are worth it or not. I also cut one of the 3 1/2" open and weighed the powder charge, I was kinda surprised to see 61.5 grains of powder. Is that around a normal charge weight for that shell?

Sounds like a good price on thoes Fereral Black Cloud shells. You can't come to any conclusions on the powder charge unless you know
what the powder is.Most factory shells are loaded with powders that are unavailable to reloaders.I haven't loaded or checked data for 31/2" and it's
been years since I've loaded 3".Stick to the data in a current loading manual.65 graines sounds like allot. It must be a very slow burner.

The only reason I bring up powder charge is because I looked in my books and couldnt find any other steel loads that had that high of a powder charge.

I used them the other day on early geese. I was using three inch BB and they did a first rate job on a couple of big birds.

What did the shot look like? The actual pictures I've seen do not look like the ads I've seen. I didn't see anything like a cutting edge on the pictures I saw.

It looked like around 40 % of the shot was "ringed" and the other 60 % was normal steel pellets.

It's a smooth ring, right? In the ads they try to make is sound and look like a sharp cutting edge. It would scare me that I might miss one and I bet that stuff will chip a tooth.

I shot them at some geese yesterday.

3" BB's. I was shooting a little behind, but they still did their job. Couldn't tell the difference in it and regular steel so far. I haven't cut one open yet either.

Did knock the heck out of a pigeon at 30 yds...:-)

I opened one today.

They're a regular pellet w/ a smooth saturn ring around them. The "poles" are flat.

The picture on the box is a good representation.
