Anyone know about these guys? I'm doing some research now for a dual purpose rig (hunt/fish) that is capable of Lake Erie nasty weather and some inland lakes as well. Likely go the deep v route, or potentially mod-v although that limits my Erie ability some what. I've been investigating the Lunds, Starcrafts, etc, and even some of the duck specialty boats like DW and Bankes. I'm inclined to stay away from them a bit because they serve one purpose very well and not so much on the fish side. Anyway, let me know if you're familiar with the BL Marine and what your thoughts on them are.

Thanks,
Ryan

Guess there are more than ONE blacklab company of boat folks out there. Looking at their website, looks like great boats: www.blacklabmarine.com Definitely worth looking at.

There are a ton of great boats on the market that are worth looking at. Give us more info on your needs and we can point in the a couple directions.

Very nice boats. Same as a Pacific. Not sure if you priced them yet, but they are in a different league than the lunds of the world - boith price and construction. They are worlds more heavy duty - plate boats, rather than thin aluminum. Call them and they'll send you a package, video, info and a plate sample (or at least they would a few years ago). Heavy duty stuff. Requires bigger power too.

I'd be sorely tempted if I had the money. I thought a lot about it before we had kids, but then that changed my perspective some. If you can't swing the $$$ of the black lab or pacific, the Lund alaskans are pretty widely available used and are good hulls.

As far as I know, Black Lab Marine makes the Pacific skiff. Hank Garvey has two of their boats and will likely chime in. My wife's uncle has a 23' Pacific and he loves the boat. He routinely takes it out to Stellwagon and the Cape islands for tuna.

Nate is correct I have two of their boats. I love them very much and I have run Lunds and owned TDB and Bankes. They are all great boats it just depends on what you want for hunting and fishing. I have a 23' Pacific and a 17' Pacific. They do not make the 17' anymore I wish they did. I get a lot of interest in the 17' all the time. I use the 17' running to our duck camp (Woodbridge) with lumber and gear. I use it for fishing the flats and duck hunting. Great boat very well built and I will have it for a long time. I son is already counting on owning it and he is only 8. The 23' is out family boat for fishing, lobster and everything else. It is a great boat and of the same construction. Jay the owner of Black Lab Marine is based in Yarmouth, ME and is the east coast distributor for Pacific Skiff. THe boats are built in WA and then shipped out here. Jay is a great guy to deal with and very honest businessman. I have done some demo rides for him and if you are interested give me a shout I'll be happy to take you out. I was out for a demo ride today with a marine construction company. I had the Harbormaster for Salem and Marblehead out in March. Salem just took delivery on a 23' HT

I also owned a 20' Pacific before so if you ahve questions about the boats and how each rides I can help you a lot. Give me a shout hhgarvey @ comcast . net

Hoep this help. HHG

Thanks for the replies Guys. I've been on their website a bit and besides the customer photo's they don't have much info on their product lineup other than the 23's and 26's. I do understand that they make a V20 which I interpret to be a 20ft deep v. which I would be interested in learning about. I've traded emails with the owner and I have an information packet on the way. To bad they no longer make the 17 as that would really be in my wheelhouse. I'd like to be in the 18ft range, I think that would fit my needs a bit better. My main goal is to be able to hunt more open water (Lake Erie and some large inland lakes). Lake Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes and while I'm not an Erie expert I understand it can whip up a mean chop in a hurry. I was out in a mod-v two years ago in 4-5ft waves and it was not a fun ride! We should have never left the marina but it didn't look that bad until we got out there. We were only out about 15min and turned her back around. At this point anything bigger than a 20 would be too big for me. I'd like to be able to use it for open water divers (tender) and but a blind on it for some puddlers near the Erie marshes. There's also some discussions on a possible relocation to the East Coast (Baltimore area) so my needs may change...

HHG - I'll drop you an email, might take you up on that ride.

ryan,
these guys set up a booth at our local du event duckers day. what a great work boat. very rugged and well built. these guys are right, very pricey. if i had the extra money for a sea ducking and ocean fishing boat that is the boat i would buy.
