Bluebill hen Painted

I first wanna thank all those whom gave me the insight on color, patterns, and various painting techniques to paint this bird...To be honest I was kind of scared out of my ass when I jumped in and started painting...I didn't have near the colors needed to paint the bird so I just started blending...This is the first hen bird I have ever carved and painted...I still have decades of learning to do...The hen is sitting next to the drake I posted earlier this week...Please feel free to bash the profile, paint scheme, and colors...I'm constantly trying to improve my abilities...I'll add another post here showing my first bird compared to these birds...The reality of this is I still like my aka "Barkley Lake Big Head", the first block I carved and painted...It can be seen from Google Map photos on Barkley Lake...Joking...I believe Rick Pierce named it "Potato Head"....

Regards,

Kristan,

Looking real good! That hen will send many drakes to their deaths, hehehe... If I learned one thing from Pat G's class at the Rutger's Institute, it's keep it simple and gun 'em.

It'll work fine, but less is more. There's a point where you have to look at a bird and say "if I do this is it going to add to the decoy" if your answer is no, put the brush down.

Special K,

Looking good! Hens are tough. I have come to the conclusion that simpler is better, and build from that a little on each. I literally spent hours mixing paint on my first hens trying to get that right brown/grey color.

Dave,

That's all you remember? Need a copy of my notes? hehe

Nice work K, good solid honest gunners. Now get back to work and carve a couple dozen more. If you schedule allows, let me know a weekend free and come up for some gunnin and a marathon shop session. I'll get the museum all warmed up for ya.

Have to agree with Dwayne of the kiss thing---a lot less on the back feathering--look at a hen in hand---the edgings just seem to have specklings of whitish here and there--NICE, matte finish on both of the "Bills" Kristan!

Lookin good bro!!!

Give me a call sometime......

FYI, every bartender in a 20 mi radius of my place now knows what a dirty lunchbox is....
