Boat blind grass

Does anyone know what the difference is between the Avery Killer Weed & Invisagrass is. I'm looking for a grass that won't mold up. I have been useing native grass but the mold and weight (wet)are an issue.I have a good backing just looking for grass ideas.

Thank's
Drew

They are all raffia palm leaves stripped into threads. Both brands are treated and appear a little waxy. However, MoMarsh Invisgrass is the only one I have seen that has stated they are treated for mildew resistance.

I always hang my raffia sections to allow them to dry between uses. Anytime they are left to sit in water they get a little funky, but not nearly as funky as natural grass.

This fall Cabelas had their prarie grass on sale for the layout blind size bundles. It is raffia as well. It turned out that their "wheat field" green is fluoresent green and about 40% of the threads in the bundle are bleached white and not a natural tan like raw raffia usually is. Might as well as painted the boat white once it was grassed up. I will solve the issue this spring with some Rit dye using the Steve Sutton methods.

Ray,
Thanks for the reply. I recently bought a new duckwater and need to breakup the boat & blind outline. I don't have a lot of past experience at hunting out of boat blinds. I was looking at getting some killer weed and thought I'd see what luck guys have had with it. The blind on the new boat seems to be great.
I store my boat in the shop so I guess the Avery stuff will work out (at least it can dry out). What part of Alaska do you live in? I spent a lot of time up there in the past. I commercial fished out of a lot of places Bristol bay and Cook Inlet.

They sell raffia grass at hobby stores. It's usually in the floral dept. You may be able to spray it with some water sealer like Thompsons to hold off the mildew. I have never tried this, but if your looking for a cheaper alternative this may be the way to go. You could also spray paint some bundles to get different colors.

Drew, I am in Anchorage. I stopped commercial fishing many years ago in college. Too many guys running unsafe boats. The good boats had full crews already.

The other poster is also correct. If you are hunting in dead grass the bundles of raffia from a craft store are much cheaper. They hold paint well, or you can spend a weekend dyeing them with RIT dye. It can turn out really dark for brown and green dyes. Kelly green and then 20 to 30 seconds in tangerine work reall well for most early season marsh grasses.
