Boat layout...

Looks good Ed, I'd think about moving the hull stiffeners (keelsons) under the hull to serve as sacrificial wear strips as well as to stiffen the hull.

That sounds easier to sit on as well.

Todd and Andy,

I'll be adding two ice runners (keelsons) on the bottom in line with the outer interior stiffeners. My thoughts were using a MoMarsh layout seat the interior stiffeners will allow for my NOT sitting in the water that the pup is going to be dragging in on all the retreives I'll be sending her out on as the ducks come raining down!....;-)

I'm hunting with you! Raining ducks and wet dog sounds llike fun........

Ed that is a good looking boat. What are the demensions ?

Here are the dimensions I was given for the pond box in the picture. "Jersey style garvey. Exterior plywood covered with glass. Box is 36" wide, Height is 9" and Length is 7' 9". Hatch opening is 17 1/2" x 68 1/2"."

The model I'm working on is 11'-0" long. x 42" across the bottom and 46" across the gunnel. Deck will be 13" high and top of coaming will be 16". Cockpit width will be 24" wide x 96" long.....I think. Tweaking will continue.

I think you are designing the boat I have been looking for. I hope you will keep us up with details as you progress. I would very much like to copy what you are doing if you don't mind some questions along the way.

Jeff and Chuck,

I'll be happy to share once I have a final design. Once that's done the next step is to break down the parts like sides, bottom, bulk heads and decking and make sure they "unfold" into flat patterns. Those parts will provide the dimensions you need to cut your parts. Then I'll make a balsa wood model to prove it out. Being able to create something on the screen and see it before cutting material is cool but sometimes you can make ProEngineer do things that don't work in real life.....

Hey Ed I have more pictures of that exact pod box if you send me your email I will send them to you. I have side shots that may help. Let me know if you want the pics. I would post them but they are to big. Or if someone can resize them I will send them to that person to resize and post

Ed, I was going to ask what program you are using for your drawings, but I think you may have answered that already. Is it ProEngineer?

Yep...ProEngineer. Actually it's the new version called Creo. Nothing more than glorified Wildfire 4 if your familiar with the program.

I tried to find some information on the pond box in the picture but I can't find and reference to Bill Simonsen. I know I'm not going to get my layout exactly like the boat in the picture but it'll be close.
