Boat plug tube replacement question

Quick question. I was feeling the bore of the plug tube on the bay boat I just bought. I seemed pretty corroded so I thought I'd take a wire brush to it and clean it up a bit. To my surprise it's brass and crumbed away. Although the transom seemed sound apparently it's been in bad shape for awhilein that area. There dose'nt seem to be any wood around the tube from the 6:00 o'clock to the 9:00 o'clock position. This tells me the transom isn't in as good of condition as I thought. I have a cheap a$$ way to get by for the time being until I can afford to have someone look at it but thought I'd ask if anyone has had the tube replaced lately in a fiberglass boat and what should I expect to be charged.

My fix is to have a guy at work tig a tube into an aluminum washer and goop the heck out of the washer and screws and screw the tube weldment to the hull. What do you think?

Thanks,

Ed L.

Ed-it sounds like you just need a new brass drain tube. You can buy those pretty cheap, you will just need to flare one side to seat it properly. Filling the channel with 5200 and then putting the tube in should do the trick. You can buy the tubes in various length's-here is a link to jamestown, scroll down a little and you will see them.
