Beats the heck out of the trout I caught this morning.
It doesn't look it in the pics, but it was 32". I was thrilled when she got it to net.
OK, here is today's update...
The female thread on the valve is bottoming out on the male elbow. Female thread below and you can see the ring in the pipe dope where the male bottomed out.
Here is the male in situ from above (I'm getting pretty good with the scope and thinking of proctology as a retirement side gig). The male elbow is obviously a well built thing made from a heavy casting with square sides and a long arm on it. Who knows what the thread is.
Side view (male fitting is upside down in view)... threads look tapered and of course it was now covered with pipe dope which is a problem for my next planned step.
I improvised a metal bristle brush on the end of a chimney cleaning rod that I could in index into the hole in the male fitting and polish the threads by chucking in a drill. Wetted with acetone, I got it pretty clean.
I loaded up the female threads with Permatex water pump RTV gasket material (thinking it is the most waterproof and the RTV would give me the best chance of getting it apart (vs epoxy)) and they are in coitus curing for tomorrow (I believe our LDS friends would refer to it as "soaking" (look it up

)).
That is all for now...
