Brochures from South Bay Duckboats or Aero Marine?

All~

As part of our Black Duck project (ON A FALLING TIDE: http://www.duckboats.net/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=283057;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread ) I am hoping to include some information about the 2 prominent 'glass boats that were built on Long island and used for hunting Anas rubripes.

I am looking for good photos of the boats in action but also sales literature.

I have one from South Bay Duckboats (Red Magnus in Sayville) that'll do if it must - but I would prefer to be able to scan an original brochure.

At this point, I have nothing from Tom Pryor's Aero Marine in Island Park (I think).

Any leads would be great.

Thanks very much,

SJS

Somewhere, in one of my duck boat folders, I likely still have a South Bay brochure from the Sayville,NY operation from back in the early 1990s. If I didn't destroy its status by writing all over it, I will send it to you. I may have an article or two on South Bay boats also. If you have any interest in them, let me know and I will include it/them.

Dteve, I think I have one . I will check my binders. Also have the grays sporting journal about them. let me dig.

I found it ! You know back in the day before the internet I kept a binder of all the duck boat brochures and drawings for reference. My brochure and price list is from 1986 with a note from Mr. Magnus. I will include a copy of the Grays sporting journal Fall 1980 where I learned more about the boats that I ever new. Being a Midwest boy we didnt ever see these out here , although in his note to me he stated they are found in 33 states. My first photo of the boat I saw was in Norman Strungs book Misty Mornings and Moonless Nights (1974). It was a rear shot of a gunner coming up on a black duck out of his grassed boat. I just looked it up its on page 84. I dont know it might have been that pic that sent me down this wayward path. Shoot me where you want me to send the stuff. Bob

Steve, I have a four page brochure containing a variety of views of the hull configurations, printed on heavy stock in sepia tone. The header states: presenting...A Most Seaworthy Duckboat. A price sheet is included, with some text in scrip outlining how many boats have been produced and the States that they now reside in-no e.

I also have a two page color promotional sheet, printed 1/13/01, with price sheet.

I have a copy article titled: The Darndest Duckboat Afloat printed in The Small Boat Journal, #88, October/November 1983. The copy of has some text from the company's owner written in script in the top margin of the cover page.

Steve, I will mail these out to you today.

Steve Lewis and I often joke about whether it is the planning; modifying the boats once you purchase them; rigging, set-up and decoy maintenance; picking the destination, and, once there, where to hunt; or actually hunting ducks that is the reason we hunt waterfowl.

He now has two new son-in-laws who have both expressed an interest in taking-up waterfowling...Christmas came early for Mr.Lewis!

Good morning, RL~

Thanks very much!

Rich~

Bill Ferraro sent me this yesterday - it's the Sneakbox I think of when I envision a Tom Pryor / Aero Marine boat:

On the other hand, when Craig and I met with Dick Demott a year ago, he had a big (2-man ?) vessel that he built with Tom Pryor. I believe Dick worked with Tom quite a bit when Dick lived up that way (East Rockaway ?). Previously, I had not known that Aero Marine built anything other than the 1-man Sneakbox shown.

Hope this helps,

SJS

I have no need for them, I don't own one anymore. At the time I was looking for a dual purpose boat that was motor driven, but could be used as a layout as well. It didn't fit my needs and is down on Lake Erie now...

I have tons of photos of gunning out of southbay boats Steve. I can send them over to you if you like.
