Broken skeg

Good evening, has anyone repaired a broken skeg on their outboard? I broke mine on Saturday, it's broke about mid point so I still have some of the original left. I was looking at the skeg boot. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank, Tom

I haven't done it, but I have seen them successfully welded. I have also seen the bolt-on/clamp-on type used, but they looked pretty clunky. 1/3 of mine has been missing for 20 years; I don't think anything of it. I don't plan to fix it.

I put a SS boot or cover on mine... works great... $100 I go mine from Cabelas... Panther I think....

A friend of mine broke most of one off his yamaha 40 horse. He took it to a place and they welded it and repainted it. You couldn't even tell it had been busted.

I messed up about 1/3 of one on a 90 horse, the bolt on cover worked good.

if you do a weld repair make sure you remove the lower unit from the motor
