Hi guys ,I have been on this site for a couple of years and I have made a couple of posts and have found your info pretty informative.Does anyone know where I could purchase a bufflehead diver duck call ? Thanks, Jimmy

Jimmie,
I've never heard of anyone making a bufflehead call. I've heard them many times and can't think of a current call that you may modify some for that purpose.
I would suggest contacting DJ Calls, Illinois River Valley calls and talk with them about it. They have started producing a swan call that I used this past Dec. They make several types of different calls that other makers don't make.
Don't have their number handy at the moment but they are on the web.

Best of luck,

The only noise I ever heard a bufflehead make was a ...burrl..burrrl kinda noise and that can be made on a regular mallard call. Some one makes a diver call though that makes the same type of noise only more deep.

I guess the question is why? Buffleheads are (IMHO) dumb as rocks and will decoy to anything just about black and white and the GHG Bufflehead decoys make it even easier. Calling is not necessary.

I have a Lohman diver call. You can make a similar call with a regular mallard call by saying brrr, brrrr. The diver call sounds a little better though.

I have a Lohman diver call, it makes a pretty good "burrr" or bark.
Not sure if buffies will respond or not. I think location & having a few buffie dekes is the key.

Thanks Nick! I wasn't going to say it because as everybody knows it might be considered inflammatory and I'm certainly not one to inflame.

I usually yell at them....,"Get the $#^% out of my decoys!" and quite often they come back around.

If I had to call them "for real" I'd probably do a loud "brrrt brrrt" with my mouth. I wouldn't even use a worn out $4 DR-85....it just wouldn't be right.

I just use my skills on my mallard call that I DONT USE ON MALLARDS. screw them sissy park ducks and they candy arsed guys who only gun puddlaz :) lol

Guys if you wont to have endless divers come in to your decoys you need to rig a decoy to dive!

make a weight heavy enough to pull your decoy under the water. set the diving decoy on the out side of the rig. bring a line to the boat with another weight near the boat. when the birds are shy or coming in to the rig just pull the decoy under to simulate a feeding diver.

pull it under for a few seconds and let it pop up. or give it a few quick pulls make the decoy roll water over the back like a bird does while preaning.Works great when you have two or three decoys in the spreed doing this.

give it a try you can't smack them away!

Mike
