Bungee - how do you make your own?

I'm in the process of making a very simple bungee blind for my ducker. I have a bunch of bungee but no ends. One side needs to stretch to 7.5 feet and the other to 4.5 feet. The 4.5 is easy to find and buy. Having trouble finding cords over 48" long. Anyone now of local chain or hardware stores where I can either buy longer cords or make my own?

I do have 15' of 1/4" bungee but no way to hook it to some eyelets

Mark,

You can buy bungee cord hooks and use the cord you have on hand, to make any length you want. Thread your cord thru the coiled end and tie a figure eight knot.

Another option is to use hog rings to secure a loop of bungee over the closed end of a "S" hook. I don't care much for the hog rings but they work. Might want to use some heat shrink over the hog ring, if you go that route.

Any idea if I can buy locally somewhere Dave? Rather not have to go on line. Been to fleet farm, menards, and northern tool with no luck. Need one longer than 48".

Mark,

The "The Rope Dope" guy, Frank usually has a good selection of OD and brown bungee cord stock. Obviously he's not local to you but he's a decent guy who works the sportsmen and boating shows. I've used a number of his products, bungee, rope & mil. cord for long line droppers, they are good quality.

Buy a short one,,,,, remove the bungee from the ends. Reuse the ends on your bungee cord that you have cut to the length you need. You did say you have bulk bungee cord on hand? If not, a farm supply should have both bulk bungee cord as well as loose ends (hooks). My local Norby's Farm Fleet carries these items, but your mileage may vary.

I've occasionally found white or colored bungee in bulk in a hardware store, but never black or olive.

Scott's suggestion looks to have good prices on bulk bungee--here's another source I've used with good results:

I don't bother with hooks or clasps--I just tie it in with bowline at each end.

There's an idea. Buy shorter ones and use the ends. Wish I would have thought of that. Thank you......

Mark-Harris Warehouse, by the foot. If you never have been there you are in for a treat. Just north of University, West of 280. I think they only have white but it paints just fine.

Mark,

McMaster-Carr has silicone elastomer tubing that will work better than bungee and last longer. I use it on my bird tossers for dog training. Bungee dry rots after a year or two...you can get at least 5 years with this stuff. Just add some nylon hooks and you loop it through once and put two nylon tie wraps on the loop and you're set. I was just looking at some deck loops to web up my Carstens Pintail with that stuff.
