Call Reccomendation?

Time to buy my son a duck call. Need an inexpensive, easy to blow call, something that can easily make the soft "quack-quack" of a hen gadwall.
I have an old Faulk's that I have had for 15 years, not sure if they make that one anymore.

Any suggestions?

Carl I understand you want cheaper but couple years ago I got a call for my daughter from Steve Steffy for Christmas she loves it and it is special to her being hand made and really nice wood .Start him off with something like that and I bet he takes better care of it just my 2cents happy hunting

If it's just for Gadwall, Haydel's makes a Gadwall call that's cheap. Buy it and a DR-85 and you're all set.

They used to package them together, not sure if they still do.

EDIT; they do... http://haydels.com/product/dp-05-duck-pack/

I'm not even sure if they make this call anymore but when I want to make quieter teal and gadwall calls I use a Primos Over Under. They say it is a whistle with a mallard call together but it isn't that great of a mallard call in my opinion. But if you blow a rasp into it you can get that squeeky hen teal sound and a calm quack will get you something close to a gadwall.

Just checked out the Haydel's website, I like the sound of that gadwalls call! Academy by me is supposed to have them, I might get two!

Mr. FURIA if you want a great sounding wood call...haydel 85 or vtm-90 if you want a mass manufactured call. Do not worry about a gaddy, just learn to blog the sequence saying "da-dit da-dit" into a mallard call. I just use my mouth and say da-dit repeatively. It works and does not echo.

Kristan

Carl, I also own one of Steve's calls. Beautiful wood and Steve is an excellent call maker, no make that a craftsman. It would be a great call to learn on and he would have it for a lifetime.
