canvas decoy pattern

Several years ago, someone posted a copy of a Duck's Unlimited magazine article (It was the March/April 1987 issue) that told how to make a canvas goose decoy. I printed it up and have since lost at least one of the pages.

Does anyone still have this file that they could post?

Thank you

Looking again at your post I'm not sure I found what you are looking for but I'll leave my reply there just in case it helps. I do not believe either article/post I have referanced is from a DU magazine article.

Look under "Carvers Corner" when you are on the Main Index page here. There you will find Chuck J's post on making a canvas goose decoy. Also Geoff Vine posted a three part article in PDF files which I believe is what you are looking for. It was featuring the work of Chuck May I believe. Since Geoff is active here I assume he will see this and hopefully provide you access to those files.

Geoff:

Thanks for posting that link...and keeping those available for all to see. A picture is worth a thousand words, and those articles are full of pictures. Sorry, I was editing your post to make the link 'live' and I think I messed up your text.

To all that requested the DU article:

I sent out email at lunch to all who had asked so far, but if you still want to see it, don't hesitate to ask. I'll see if I can dig up some more info tonight on my home computer and email that as well.

Chuck

Thank you all for your assistance. This is the article that I was looking for and I have another article to add to the archives.

Thanks for fixing the link Chuck J.

Chuck May was a great human being and a passionate carver. His specialty was canvas birds. I feel blessed to have learned some things from him before he passed. He worked on the photo essay for me, and really wanted it to be a way to pass the craft on to the next generation of carvers. His photos have done just that. He would be so pleased to see the interest in this style of decoy.

Doug,

I do not know if you have ability to travel but if you could sit at the feet of Chuck for one day a lot of what you read through that link will start to make more since...The link is at best an easy step by step way to create a canvas decoy...But there are a lot of simple techniques that are better tought to you through a mentor standing there in front of you...

Of course that is also my learning style...Hands on instills more knowledge then just picking-up the book...I have created three decoys after Chuck's class, but progressively I wish I had someone there with me to go "NO!, it is easier if you...."

By the way Chuck if you want to do another class I will be there! Hint! Hint!

Regards,

Kristan
