canvas decoys in goldeneyes

Rick, search this site for posts by Chuck J. He has a lot of good pic's and advice on building canvas decoys. Also, I recently bought a book written by Al Streetman. It's all about building canvas decoys and has quite a few patterns. You can find it on Amazon.

I did 8 GE last winter. Sorry to say, but smaller birds like Ge really don't lend themselves to canvas as a medium. I have some canvas Mallards in teh rig, and they weigh more than my HD cork deeks. Fun to make, yes, but the canvas medium really shines in the birds Brant and larger IMHO

Streetman's book, though shows the steps of the precess, his patterns are antiquated at best. If you want to make an old timey deek for teh shelf, they are fine, but really don't give the essence of the species.

Chuck knows his canvas decoys and gives some good information there.

If I wanted easy canvas decoys of smaller species I'd go without the wires and only use 1x for the head and good 1/4" plywood for the back. I may have a goldeneye pattern I drew up some time ago if I can find it.

I do make smaller canvas decoys at times, usually doves, but almost anyone could carve two faster then I can make one out of canvas. I just like how they look.
