Catalpa For Decoys???

Was out at my dad's house today and he told me that he was going to cut down a Catalpa tree. Wanted to know if I wanted it for decoys. The tree is large enough that I would be able to get several teal bodies out of it. Has anyone here used Catalpa for making decoys? Any good?

I've used it, and I like it. It is pretty light weight, but you'll still probably want to hollow it. My local carving shop had a few blocks of it, but seem to have run out of it lately.

When I was a kid, I remember fishing for catfish with catalpa worms. Best catfish and bream bait there is. Hard to find them anymore though.

Carl, you can grow your own if you have some catalpa trees around. As I understand it, they sort of "imprint' on their tree, so if you transplant some to an unoccupied tree, they will be on it every year. And yes, they do make some mighty fine catfish bait.
