Cinnamon toast---

One of my favorite birds to photograph and occasionally being able to shoot with a gun. Most of the time our season is over before the reverse migration begins. I took these shots several years ago.

This is the time of the year when the cinnamon teal and shovelers will be found mostly in the same areas and for sure doing quite a bit of "courtship flying" and of course displaying their abilities! They are now here at Bosque del Apache NWR in good numbers. Maybe today I'll have some time to run down there and take some more pictures of them. It is supposed to be up into the 70sF and I'll take that for sure.

For some reason I was thinking of my mom and that made me think of the 40s when I was a kid and always looking forward to breakfast when mom would make cinnamon-sugar toast for me.

I forgot to add these to the thread. You'll notice that this hen is getting a lot of attention.

Beautiful captures. What a great way to start my day looking at God's beautiful creations. I agree, the shovelers flying with their bodies completely banked into a turn and their heads flying level is quite a site. I can almost feel the determination as they fly into a hot LZ and try to avoid gunfire. Of coure that is only in my head because the season is behind us and I assume you on an the NWR.

Thanks for sharing.

Al - Some great his and hers flight shots ! I am struck by some of the differences like eye color and feet, no less, between the drakes and the hens.

Tom, I appreciated your comments. I had fun photographing their courtship flights. They really get with the program!

You were exactly correct about me being at Bosque del Apache. It is so close (8 miles) from our home. Thanks for those comments and I agree about God's creations.
When I first began observing waterfowl, I thought only Canadas and light geese would whiffle. Well, I sure found out about ducks doing this, also. By the way, it is a fun challenge to try and capture any of the waterfowl, whiffling with a camera in your hand.
