CT Greenhorn in Need of Guidance

Hey Guys,

I have recently grown a huge interest in the world of waterfowl. The different colors of different species of ducks, the variety of decoy spreads, the brotherhood, etc. It all just seems so graceful. The problem is, I don't know any dedicated duck/goose hunters. I was wondering if there were any upcoming events that will take place here in Connecticut. I look forward to talking with everybody!

Thanks

Jason~

Not too far from you - the Long Island Decoy Collectors Association usually has a show in early March. I do not see a date on their site yet: http://www.lidecoycollectors.org/ There will be lots of decoys and lots of history.

I will post something here once I know the date.

Question: Are you familiar with Eugene Connett's Duck Shooting Along the Atlantic Tidewater? It's a book every east coast gunner should own, in my opinion.

All the best,

SJS

Jason,

If you'd like to, we could carpool to the show. We might could get a small contingent to go.

In a marsh NOWHERE near your spot.

No, I have not heard of that book. I will have to check it out. What kind of stuff goes on at this show?

Jason~

The Show is mostly old decoys - from very simple $20 birds right on up the scale. There is also: other collectibles from duck hunting, shooting, fishing, etc, plus artwork and books, etc. I doi not know what its theme is this year. I am sure they will post an announcement with a fuller description once the date approaches.

Check out connecticut waterfowlers assosiation. They are a great group and they do quite a few things.

Where abouts in ct do you live?

Steve, I'm into vintage so this sounds like a show for me. I hope i can make it.

Chris, I actually live about 10 minutes from Cromwell Meadows. Are you familiar with that area?

Jason.
I live in Portland, so I have to be close to you. We normally have a full boat hunting now but could always give you some places to go and check out.
Pete

Pete,

I would appreciate that. Not many people would even think of doing that. A friend of mine owns a tanning salon in Portland so I know the area for the most part.

I know that Mike, I just have to get my hands on some waders. When do you finish up with waterfowl for the season? Do you go after goose?
