CT Guys heads up at the State Capitol!

Bob B

Well-known member
I have not been on the board for some time and I will apologize for bombing it with this after being away for so long, but I feel very strongly about protecting the history of the shooting sports I love. These bills will have a large impact on all of us here in CT. Most of my friends had no idea.

This is an all hands on deck situation in CT at this point and it looks like Monday might be the only public testimony on the bills.
I have called over 20 people today alone. Let your friends know about this and ask them to get involved. Before Friday at 2 if you can.
Please help by calling your state reps and voicing your support for not passing these bills that were run into NY State without hearings.

This is a copy of the NSSF notice that went out 2 days ago.

Gov. Malloy, Sen. Beth Bye, and Rep. Bob Godfrey want outright bans and onerous restrictions on your rights through an enormous number of Anti-Gun Bills. Here are a few of the items included in one of their proposals:

An outright ban on ALL modern sporting rifles classifying them as "Assault Weapons."
Restricting your ability to defend yourself and family by arbitrarily restricting the magazine size to 10 rounds.
Confiscating ALL magazines holding more than 10 rounds, pistols included.
Statewide gun registration for ALL firearms; knowing full well criminals won't ever register their guns.
Re-registration every 2 years with ever increasing fees.
Requires permit for any rifle with a pistol grip.
Limiting how much ammunition you can purchase AND possess.
Registration of all ammunition purchases.
Bans internet sales of ammo in Connecticut.
Mandatory gun storage laws, like the one the U.S. Supreme Court struck down in the Heller decision.
There will only be a few opportunities for discussion and opposition as many in Hartford are trying to pass legislation as quickly as possible. The first hearing (and may be the only time to testify) will occur next Monday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Legislative Office Building.

Gun Violence Prevention Working Group Public Hearing
Monday, Jan. 28, 2013
Legislative Office Building
10 a.m., Room 2C

NSSF is urging all gun owners, sportsmen and hunters to attend Monday's public hearing to be held in the Legislative Office Building in Room 2C at 10 a.m. and to contact their state representative, senator and all members of the Committee immediately, urging them to oppose knee-jerk reaction legislation.

If this bill passes, law-abiding gun owners will have to begin surrendering their magazines and possibly modern sporting rifles, or face confiscation by the state police and a felony charge. Again, this proposal would make simple possession of a legally owned firearm or magazine a felony.

This draconian measure will also affect non-gun owners as all Connecticut tax payers will be forced to foot the bill for the extraordinary process of having police confiscate -- from law-abiding citizens -- AND registration databases.

Making matters worse, Connecticut manufacturers including Colt, Mossberg, Stag Arms, Mec-Gar, OKAY Industries, Ruger and Metalform will be directly affected by this legislation. That means a loss of jobs and tax revenue to the state.

Here are a few of the other pieces of legislation under consideration:

HB 5268, SB140

To require firearm owners to maintain liability insurance and establish a sales tax on the sale of ammunition at a rate of 50 percent and require all ammunition to be purchased in person.

SB 122

A class C felony offense for any person or organization to purchase, sell, donate, transport, possess or use any gun except one made to fire a single round.

SB 124

Prohibit the possession of magazines that accept more than ten rounds.

Don't let legislators trample your rights. Let your voice be heard now.

Good luck to you guys in CT, we are already under 2nd Amendment lockdown here in NY. Do everything you can legally do to avoid this! Call, email, protest, let your voices be heard before it's too late.

Our legislature here in AL is going the opposite direction: considering laws that would authorize School & University Faculty & Staff to be trained, certified and armed, as well as allowing gun owners to keep firearms in their cars at any place of employment.

all these laws are helping me in my decision to move.

Carl i found an awesome job down in alamaba with a private company doing pond electrofishing surveys, establish a stocking program for the land owner then stock the lake. only thing is i cant take the heat and im stuck here until next july until the GF is done with school then its time to say sionara

That's cool Carl...Vickie is pushing to move back to Florida. She can't take the cold anymore with her arthritis. It's really kicking her butt. Maybe I'll push for Alabama...hehe

Come on down, the cost of living here is alot cheaper than Florida and you are still within a days drive of most of FL, Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, etc....

I was actually pretty flabbergasted by a duck hunter/shooter friend of mine who flat out told me he is in favor of more gun control, even after I explained to him that what's out there in the CT bills is not just about AR's. That it would cost HIM hundreds of dollars per year more in fees/taxes/permits/insurance/registrations and not do a thing to prevent any crimes. That his current inventory of ammo would make him a felon if the bills become law. (I'll REALLY be a felon re:ammo)... His head isn't just in the sand, it's someplace else dark.

Got this this morning. Please pass it to any one you know.

From CCDL,

Stop Emergency Certification

Thank you to all that testified at the Working Group hearings. Now that these hearings have completed, we must contact our own legislators today and ask them to not support any gun bills that come as a result of emergency certification.

Please express the following:

1) Emergency Certification on firearms related bills is not the correct use of our legislative process.

2) We deserve hearings on specific firearms bills that are raised by a committee only.

3) Oppose any bill that comes to the House or Senate via Emergency Certification.

4) Politely remind your legislators that they work for the citizens of Connecticut, and that you are tracking what they do and how they vote.

5) Express that we do not need additional gun laws. Enforce the current laws and lengthen prison sentences for criminals that conduct violent acts.

6) Explain to them that the concept of "Gun Free Zones" does not work, and you support measures to increase school safety with police, security or possibly armed faculty that have received proper training.

Please Call and Write Your State Representative and Your State Senator Today

well i hope you folks across the boders ,do better than we did in canada because we lost our fight with the magazines issue. Our are at 10 rounds now so good luck call everybody

Maybe all the gun manufacturers in the anti second amendment states should look long and hard in the states that they are in, and considering moving. The revenue they generate for the anti-gun agenda seems to at odds with their business model. Another thing I'm wondering about is why some major gun manufacturers don't even mention the current state of affairs for the industry. Open Smith and Wessons home page, and then look at Remingtions. You would think Remingtion is selling shavers.

Hey S&W get the F out of Mass already. Call attorney general or governor of Texas and shop a deal, the tax brake would be huge and you'll be welcome to sell all your products.

Bob, To anyone who is interested and viewing your thread. The NRA is running a promotion right now, day to day basis, possibly over by the end of february or before, Life membership for a one time fee of $300. The regular price is $1000. There are no extra fees after the fact, the NRA is just trying to boost membership and monetary support. The phone number is 1-800-672-3888, chose option 2 and ask for the $300 life membership promotion. Hope this helps those who are interested in protecting their 2nd amendment rights. Good luck with your fight in CT. Ny is lost.....help us!

I recommend to all of you CT guys to join CCDL at www.ccdl.us/ it's free and ALL of the proposed bills have links posted...mindboggling, almost 100 bills are listed, although I'm not sure if they all are from the 2013 session or if there is carry-over from 2012....

Thanks for the link Jim. After reading some of the proposals, I need a full bottle of aspirin for the headache! I bet folks from other parts of the country will find it both ironic and a bit amusing that a guy named "Looney" is leading the charge to criminalize us.
