I am working on finishing my first two decoys - redheads. I am calling them the "scrap ducks" as I am making them out of scraps I had of foam insulation board for the body and 1 by red cedar for silo heads. Unfortunately, most people here in my area consider any duck not a mallard a scrap duck.
My question is, I started sealing the red cedar heads with BLO and originally planned on painting over that once cured. Now, i'm starting to think the color of the wood looks fairly close to the color of a redhead drake already. Can I just leave the head unpainted and sealed with several coats of BLO and be fine?
