deleting email address from "profile"

I can't seem to delete my email address from the "edit profile". I am getting spam, if that's what you call it, to the tune of over 50 up to 100 a day crediting my email address of having sent messages that have been in error. I don't believe having it on the Edit Profile is doing it but since this new form I have been overun. I have Norton antivirus which scans almost weekly. I'm clutching at straws to solve this before going to the change of address.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you clear the line that says display email and then go to the bottom and click make profile changes it should be gone.
The email address in the "Real Email address:" line is only visible to you, and probably Eric. Others here can not see it, I looked and it is hidden.

Those error return messages you are getting are most likely caused by someone having a virus who knows you and has your email in their address book. It is pretty common for viruses being sent out by other computers to grab another address so it is hard to trace. I've had that happen a time or two and other then sending everyone you know an email telling them someone may have a virus there isn't much you can do. I think I had about 200 once in my hotmail account in a matter of minutes. I feel your pain.
