Did someone say upland?

Wish I had some duck photos but I have only been out once this season. I can say get ready to the south of here. Lots of ducks and geese moving right now.
Most of my hunting time has been spent pursuing pheasants.
Even though the numbers are down because of the drought we are still getting a few.

Some have been old birds.

But they all taste good if cooked right.
Pheasant with red wine sauce.

This afternoon we got out for a quick hunt.
Deuce did well. Had 3 solid rooster points and I only came away with 2. His shooter failed him.

I may be becoming a gun snob. I had to get me one of those twice barreled shoot guns. Its a joy to carry but it's taking a little time to get use to.

Happy hunting everyone.

Nice Tim. Great to see that you're finding some birds. We went out to MT this October and it was shocking how hard the drought affected where we were. We did find a few places with birds, but not in numbers like they normally would have had. When you're not even seeing the yard pheasants or yard grouse you know that something is wrong.

What kind of twice barrel didja get?

Very nice Tim. Looks like some good hunts. Not much upland for me this year - the weight of a limit of pheasants in the vest sure would be nice.

By the look on his face I believe he quickly forgave you!

Dani,
In SD it sounds like anything near the Missouri River and west has been hit hard from the drought. Here in the east we are down some but not nearly what the counts said it was. I'm always getting chances at a few birds.

The "new" gun is a 45 year old 20ga Beretta BL-3. Its a joy to carry but the shooting is taking some getting use to.

Tod,
It's amazing how nice a full vest feels, catching those tail feathers out of the corner of your eye.

Carl,
Yeah, he gets over stuff much quicker than I do. A couple times this year he has put on bird finding clinics and I stumble in and ruin his perfect day.

That's great Tim! Hunting pheasants is so fun, honestly the best part of it for me is the dog work. I keep saying that I'm going to take a trip out your way one day. Believe it or not we actually have pretty decent pheasant hunting in Utah, but the last 2 years have been way down from what we have seen in the past. Still managed to get out in the rain and snow on Sunday and get a few-

Glad you are having a good season!

Cody it's cool seeing birds from way out west. I've seen some videos of guys pheasant hunting in Utah and Idaho. Its neat to see the variety of habitat that pheasants can adapt to.

If you ever come east I can give you some pointers on where to go.

Thanks Tim! I will definitely be bothering you for info in the future, a waterfowl/upland combo trip to the Dakotas has been in the works for a while now.
