Dogs in small cockpit sneakboat

What do you guys do with the dog in a small cockpit sneakboat. One of the reasons i wanted the larger cockpit type boat. I need room for me and my 75# choc lab.

Gary,
My Chocolate Lab sits behind my head, up under the dodger. She can see well from there, she is hidden, she is protected from the elements, she is away from any muzzle blast and I can get lots of kisses while petting her nose. (keeps my glasses clean)

Dave,
You have the Huff which has the bigger cockpit. That was one of the reasons i liked that boat. It seems alot of the BBSB have the smaller cockpit and was wondering how people work with the dog in these boats. Even the Higbee in the classifieds has the small cockpit. And i guess we have the same kind of glass cleaning labs i see... lol

Gary,
Actual cockpit size is immaterial as she is sitting up on the deck beyond the cockpit. The only prerequisite is that the dodger has to be large enough to accommodate the dog in question.

I thought the dodgers encompass the opening. I did not realize they are set back so there is like a shelf section the dogs can sit up on. I really need to look into these style boats more. Having hunted out of just a TDB i am limited on what is out there and how they are used.

Here is a picture of where she is when hunting. Doesn't show it the best but all I got for now. She is up on the deck, under the dodger. PS. My back is up against the cockpit opening.

Also found a picture of my previous dog sitting under the dodger.

Keep in mind that you can build, or have made, the dodger/blind system to the configuration that you need.

I like the idea of the shelf for your dog. Never used my dog with my boat as the cockpit was small...Outgrew the boat and ended up with a South Bay. Miss my chocolate...

I had a boat a few years back with a seperate hatch are for the dog. It was under the dodger and behind the shooter. It was a great layout. I sold it to a member on here and he sold it after that, both of us went with larger boats. That boat was built by Ike Cossaman (last name may be spelled wrong). It was really a great boat. If you get a Higbee style boat the hatch can be made larger and so can the dodger.

Matt pretty sure it was Ike Cossaboon, from down Millville way. He made a few different style boats. His brother makes the stainless clams rakes. Unfortunatley Ike passed away a few years ago.
