Dove hunting in Florida

Second split starts Saturday, then it's Florida duck hunting on the 20th of November, a week later. We've had one of the best dove seasons ever. Ismail and I have been teaming and hunting with the dogs retrieving. Ismail is 83 and can still shoot. Here are a few photos...

The good old boys that have ran these dove fields for 15 years. They have a duck camp on the property too.

Shah hunting with Ismail. He watches the barrel of your gun, he'll watch where you swing it.

On the drive off the farm. These are private dove fields on Duda farms in Central Florida.

I'll be scouting for ducks this weekend.

What great photos, Hitch. Love the action shots of the dogs. Only God knows if I will be lucky enough to do what Ismail is doing at that age. Lord, that smile tells it all. Congratulate him for me, please.

John,
that shot of your friend and Sha on the field edge is a great one. For a hunter that is the life. They both are living the moment.

Thanks for the warm weather shots......
No shorts up here.

Do you use the mojo dove or any other type of decoys? I was goose hunting a corn field with a group of guys that were set up for dove if they decided to come. Well it turned out dove were the only thing flying that morning and when he set up the mojo dove it brought in alot of birds. I was suprised how well it worked. Even bought my own but didnt see half as many this year. Guess I know where they all went. Congrats.

I'll second that...good to see Ismail getting out.

John, does he hunt ducks later in the "winter" as well? Reason I ask, is I was able to get my dad (79) out goose hunting with me this September, but could not get him out during the regular duck season, even during the relatively mild weather we've had. He doesn't like the cool moist air close to the water...yet I'll bet he is sitting in his tree stand right now with his crossbow.

Thanks for sharing,

Chuck

Thanks guys. No mojos that I've seen in the fields this year. There were a couple people that tried them last year, but this year you wouldn't need them even if they did work.

Chuck,

Ismail hunts ducks too, usually off the front of the airboat in deeper water, but wades when we have a spot that we can get him to. He loves Shah, and Shah retrieves his birds to him, and he especially loves that.

Hitch, Hunted hogs and gators on the Duda Ranch with Malcolm. Sure miss that guy! Years ago when looking at one of my Chesapeakes, told me about some duck hunter with a lease on the ranch. Said "They had a ches - bit every one of them!" Was that you guys??

Malcolm Lavander...what a great "cracker" name and a great man. He was a good friend to all hunters and a best friend of those at duck camp. He died in a plane crash. Duda's own land from the east coast of Florida, to central Florida, to the plains, and even to the west coast in California. They are an example of good management and careful protection of land and habitat. I shot my 15 dove again last Saturday, Shah retieving them all. It was a perfect day...snipe busting in the field...flocks of Teal migrating over head. We had a feast before the hunt at the Duda pavilion. Malcolm was mentioned several times in conversation. You can see the houses in the background. I can only hope that the heritage that Malcolm promoted among his family members will continue on what is left of the Duda lands and legacy.
