Dear Ducks Unlimited Members:

We are proud to announce the Iowa Ducks Unlimited License Plate. We officially launched this program at our State Convention on February 22, 2008. We need 500 paid applications then the plates will be manufactured. After the 500 paid applications are submitted to the Iowa DOT you will receive a letter from your county treasurer and you will be able to pick up your new Iowa Ducks Unlimited license plate at your county treasurer's office.

Your support of Iowa’s Ducks Unlimited Plate Project will provide needed funds for wetland restoration and habitat. Costs for a numbered plate will be $35 initially and $10 more annually. For a personalized plate the initial fee is $60 and $15 more annually. 100% of the profits of every plate purchased will go toward wetland projects right here in Iowa so please sign up today.

The attached DU logo will be on the plate.

Please pass this along to any and everyone in your email address books who would be interested in supporting wetland conservation in Iowa.

If you have questions, please call 641-592-3600.

Thanks for the help!

Mike

Thanks for passing that info. along. I have not received that e-mail.....? Could you please forward it to me. ducknbucks@mchsi.com. Thanks!!

I know a few years back, Iowa DU tried to get a DU plate but could not get the 500 required. Hopefully this time it will fly. I know I'm game.

Man, Michigan DU has been fighting for years to get a plate but our Gov. keeps turning us down.

Good Job Iowa and congratulations.

I'll chime in here a bit on the plates. It's a very good thing for Iowa for wetland habitat. I know a couple of the successfull states that have them are Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. They raise $100,000, $150,000, and $200,000 but I can't remember which figure goes to which state. Forgive me if you live in one of these states. But this is an annual figure!!! I looked at the DU membership and if half of the members get a plate @ $10 that's $75,000 for wetland habitat that wasn't there before. Pretty significant in my book. I'll have 3 plates that I'm regestering. My truck, my wifes car, and of course my duck boat trailer.

Jeff,

E-mail is on the way! I'll be up in your town tomorrow, my brother sold my Honda on E-bay and the buyer is coming to pick it up at his place.

Jim,

That's good for Iowa. I wish we had a DU plate here in Illinois that would go to conservation rather than the general fund which is where all monies go in Illinois. Lord knows we need it. Reports are the DNR is losing another 27 million this year in funding and of course it's got be come from somewhere. I wonder what my license and permits will cost this year. Since 2000 the DNR has been to forced to downsize something like 30% in personnel. They can't effectively cover the counties now and rumor has it the State Police will eventually be given the additional duties to police hunting, fishing as well as other outdoor activities. Of course that's been a rumor for some time.

Take care,

Ed L.

Hey Ed!

How's things over your way?

Yeah this plate deal sounds like a good thing for Iowa! Will probably get one for the pickup and the bike. I'd go broke if I got one for everything!

If this snow ever melts and spring comes, Brendon and I might hop on the bikes and make a road trip over your way to say hi.

Jim,

I got the e-mail. Thanks. I tried to copy and paste your post but for whatever reason it wouldn't work.

You gonna be in Waverly or just this part of our snowy state? A guy that lives a few houses over from me shares the same last name as the one that came through on the e-mail you sent.

Thanks again for the e-mail....!

Hey Jim....Not much going on over here. Just waiting to get the boats out. Fishing season has to be right around the corner. Just barely got break-in hours on the new outboard during the hunting season. Can't wait to get her fired up again.

Just let me know when your coming. There's always beer in the frig and something to throw on the grill!

Take care,

Ed L.

Jeff,

That would most likely be my brothers place. The Steinfadt name isn't a very common one. If you se a red Ford pickup with a trailer behind it over there in a couple of hours that will probably be me!

There is an attachment on the e-mail with a pdf form from the DOT to apply for the plates. Maybe later when I get home I'll see if I can find a way to post the pdf here in case someone else wants to apply.
