Duck boat rebuild

well i tested the pipe chase and with some luck i got the teleflex steering and shift cables through the chase. It was not easy but at least possible. The bad news is my shift cables and my steering cable are 8 inches short so back out they come and i guess ill be ordering new. The guys glassed down the center console so there are no fasteners that penetrate through the floor and no place for water to enter to cause rot. behind the center console i had them build a pad to place the seat on its 2 sheets of 3/4 ply glassed over so when i screw a seat down it only gets holes into the seat pad never the floor if that makes sense. The storage boxes in the rear got built and now i am posing a question to you guys. My fuel line in one piece from the front to the rear. I purposely separated the battery and the fuel tank because i don't want to have to vent any compartments. In the stern right boat they built I'm going to have a lot or rigging and the battery posts where I junction from the extension cable to the battery cables on the outboard. Should i place my fuel water separator on the outside of this box or the inside i have never had one leak but its a mess when i have to change the filter. If i placed it on the inside do i have to vent it? I'm already going to have the primer ball on the exterior.

Well i picked the boat up the rest is on me. I still have to wire it rig it put my Etec on it and install the controls. My total with materials for the guys to go this far was 4300 for the glass work and another 1000 in gelcoat and paint. I originally was going to just go parkers marsh brown but when i saw what they were capable of on a different boat I invested the extra money. The progress will be slow now as i have to work overtime to pay for all the other things the boat requires to be finished. View attachment IMG_3735.JPG
 
The boat is basically done I still have to mount the fish finder add the cleats and maybe a VHF radio. The boat isn't completely self bailing after raising the floor a inch and adding the fuel tank to the bow moving the batteries to the center console. When i stand in the boat at the helm no water comes in he scuppers but as i walk back it flows in. The boat drove about 36 mph with just me in it. I learned on thing i will never use 3 inch pipe as the conduit for the rigging ever again it was very close.

You could install scupper caps that use a Ping-Pong type ball to close as water attempts to flow in...not very aesthetically pleasing, but they work. I installed a pair on the splashwell scuppers on my Outrage 21' to keep the water sloshing around in the splashwell while trolling for salmon and trout to a minimum. I used to routinely have at least a gallon of water sloshing around, which was quite annoying to listen to for hours on end.

Also, assuming these are current pics, your trailer tires look low.

I have set of those just haven't installed them yet i do hope they resolve the problem. The hardest part was finding them in black. I still may buy a new outboard down the road the new 70 hp outboard from yamaha is 254 pounds and my etec is 319. I also may try for a 60 hp etec to save some weight they are in the 250 pound range and i don't have to re rig.
 
Wow, she's a beaut! Love the lines on that boat. She looks near bulletproof now, and likely is with all the glass and epoxy. I bet you won't be rebuilding her (at least out of necessity) for a very long time!
 
Thank you for the compliments I may still have one more update i might try to build my own leaning post and seat type combo. In the picture you see a small 28X16 inch pad i had them install. It was two layers of 3/4 ply installed over the floor glassed in. The purpose was to allow me to screw my seat down and have the screws never penetrate the actual floor so there could be no water intrusion. The issue is when you open the hatch door in the console it strikes the seat the guys painted to match for me and won't fully open if its placed on that pad. It was an oversight and things happen.
