Any body like to use a call with a metal reed(brass, bronze, mono stainless etc)? Is there any calls still made with metal reeds anymore? What is your preference for reed material? I still have & use an old call with a bronze reed I love, never freezes up & will blows well when wet( like when ya blow a mustache full of coffee thru it)! Just curious. Thanks.

My favorite call (and still my primary) since I was 16 is the Yentzen Sure Shot. Has a dual metal reed set up and is easy to blow loud or soft. You have to look for it, but it's out there.......and still VERY inexpensive. Go to Sureshotgamecalls.com. Mine is the original wood and I think it runs about $25. Best call I have ever owned. That's one piece of equipment that I never feel like there is something better on the market every year that I have to purchase. Duck call.......check! dc

Dave, I ordered my Yentzen SS-500 just last week. Rob Robertson put me onto this call about two weeks ago. I'm hoping it gets here today.
Here is the website where I got it. Knutson's http://www.knutsondecoys.com/calls/mallard_sureshot.html

Al.........that's my baby! That is the original one and only call that will ALWAYS go into the marsh with me. After I had been hunting for about 15 years I found that they were selling the Sure Shot DELUXE wood call and that is strapped around my neck also. It's a good call, but not as lethal as the original. Enjoy this call, you will be amazed at how easy, loud, and the variety of sounds you can make with it. I should be a spokesman for them. dc

Dennis,

For years my brothers and I used Dennison Stratavarious bronze reed duck calls. I ordered several from Earl's daughter in law (Dorothy Dennison) back in the 90's. I recently received an email from Johnny Marsh calls and they still have some of the Reelfoot Lake calls available. The metal reed is call is a bit finicky for tuning but once correctly tuned, the feeding chuckle is second to none.

Hey, Dave, I just got back home from cutting firewood and found a package from Knutson's Sporting Goods that UPS dropped off. Inside is my (Sureshot) SS-500. After blowing a few times, I will be using it allot. Great call. I have a couple of places that this call will be perfect for.

Al, is that not the easiest, sweetest feeder chuckle you ever heard. It doesn't have any cool graphics, engravings, or a cool name like MEAT MAGNET or GUT PILE, but it just flat out works. Good luck this season. dc

My opinion, the best metal reed call out there is a Glenn Scoby. The reel foot lake model has the metal reed but buyer beware you better have the lung capacity to blow it. It takes a lot of air but the sound is not only heard at long distances but has a great hen bark and feed chuckle. The Arkansas model is for the timber and has a plastic reed which, in my opinion isn't worth buying.
