Duckboats get together

Hey John,

You can hunt Sundays as well right????

Saturdays are not good days for me in general. My wife works in the radiology department every Saturday. So I usually hunt real close to home on Saturday afternoons since I only have two hours or so.

Hey Gene Jr. you up for this? If others are interested in this as well, I'll probably head out Sat afternoon so I wouldn't have to leave at 2 am on Sunday.

We can make multiple get togethers. I am open to anything. If you guys want a warmer get together. Our chapter of DU usually has a seafood dinner the first week in July. It's the real deal. all you can eat crabs, shrimp, scallops and clams. We usually have smoked stripper as well. We can then head out Sunday morning for a boat run in the bay. I have a home office with 8 parking spaces for the office and anyone is welcome to leave the boat here in the meantime overnight. The dinner usually starts at 6:00 p.m. Feel free to visit Tuckerton seaport Saturday a.m. Attend the dinner Sat eve and go on a boat run Sun a.m.

Mike,

Yes, you can hunt Sundays here.
Even if there is no get together, you guy are more than welcome to come out. Consider it an open ended offer.

Sweet John,

As I said Sundays work great for me and maybe Gene Jr would like to take the trip as well. Lets plan for it when the shooting is going to be good. I appreciate the offer as well.

I like that idea, I already have a NY license, and its been a few years since I hunted the South Shore. I think the time of year that I hunted was late December, early January, and the gunning was great.

Let me know when you guys want to come out.
I go every Sunday and Tuesday from opening day till Dec 18 then I go to 5 days a week or more until the end of Jan then back to Sun / Tues for the rest of the goose season.

Sounds like some great stuff coming together. If we can find a weekend that works I would be willing to put together something around the Tuckerton/LBI area on a friday PM/ to sat/am hunt in the bay for brant/divers/blacks and then those interested in heading to Long Island for the Sunday hunt can caravan north saturday pm. I would be leaving the Lancaster Pa. area and have room in the boat for 1-2 more guns.

I do think it will be easier to get a larger get together going in the off season. I like Mike's DU dinner and boat get together idea and we can support a good cause.

Lets make something happen!

Gene

The NJ shore hunt sounds doable for me.... license fees around $50 it appears for a 2 day out of state... I won't have my Sneakbox done this season, so I would be a tag along. Dave

Charlie and Dave have prior engagements on the weekend I was thinking about doing it. I'd like to have as many guys as possible and we have plenty of time to make sure it fits into everyones schedule.

So how does the weekend of December 5th sound? I can make sure my wife will be off on Saturday and we can do a Friday afternoon hunt if anyone wants and then a Saturday morning hunt (Barnegat, Tuckerton, LBI). Then Saturday afternoon we can head out to LI and hunt Sunday morning.

Cool...thanks for everyones interest in making this happen.

Could I suggest the next weekend? For selfish reasons...as I have off that Friday the 11th, and then can get my NJ license Friday morning and be ready to go for the afternoon. Either way, I am going to scramble, and make it... and as I was discussing it with my wife, I realized I already have my NY license that I bought for my trip to Vt/NY next week to hunt Lake Champlain!

Looking forward to meeting you all.... Dave

I think I can make dec. 4,5,6 work for the whole thing. I am already scheduled off work that friday, was headed north for a week of deer hunting, looks like the deer hunt will be a bit shorter. If so, I would be in the LBI area late thurs and would be able to hunt all day friday if anyone is interested. I know enough places that I'm sure we can get on birds without scouting first. I'd like to bring my 10' sneak to use for a layout if there is enough interest. I can provide about 4 doz. Bluebill, 1 1/2 doz. brant, 1 doz. bufflehead, 1/2 doz can, 1/2 doz black and about 1 1/2 doz sea duck decoys for us to use. All except the blacks are long line rigged. The barnegat area always produces buffies, blacks and brant. Good chance of bluebills, mallards, mergs... I like to shoot and I'm not a picky eater so I often target the buffies and brant.

I know some of you guys that are in on this are more local to that area than I am. Please give your input as well. I hunt there a lot but don't always have the most recent local knowledge.

I'd be interested in either Barnegat or Long Island as well! Unfortunately, I'd be a tag-along if we have to cross big water (all I have is my Aquapod).

Will be watching to see what weekends are decided on. I'm unavailable every other weekend (starting with this one).

Well it seems that the best date for most is December 4 -6. Unfortunately it's not good for a few. But, I guess no matter how we look at it, someone will always have an issue with a particular weekend.

Have no fear.........When we have our Seafood Feast for DU in July, you all will have plenty of time to plan because I would like a lot of people to show up for a warm weather boat outing.

I'm still trying to hammer out the final specifics (always subject to change on hunt conditions).

So far we will be doing a P.M. hunt on Friday (Barnegat, Tuckerton, LBI???)

An A.M. hunt (Barnegat, Tuckerton, LBI???)

I've spoken with a few asking for pointers on ideal spots on the bays, so we will hammer that out prior to the hunt.

Saturday afternoon we will be heading out to Long Island for a Sunday A.M. South Bay hunt with John showing us the ropes.

So start planning....make sure you batteries are charged, bearings are lubed, tire pressure checked (bring a spare) and you have you out of state license.

I will schedule vacation, but will need to be a tag along as my boat is not going to be ready. I can add some decoys if needed. If I can impose, let me know and what to bring as far as decoys. I have a NY license already, and need to get the NJ in person as I am not yet in thier system. Dave in VA
