well this has been a very ducky week/weekend. i went carving last Wednesday With Pete and his Buddies and learned how to do the blends on the hen mallard. then on saturday i went up to Pete's house and pretty much got the first buffie ready for sealer/paint(it is the hardest head to carve so far) im goint to make them smoothies so im looking foward to paining on that style bird, im also going to be making some wooden buffies so thats another first. then Pete and I went to look at some birds in a marsh and i Saw my first Full plume Bluewinger. now that is a cool bird.

my girlfriend and i went for a walk around a marsh and saw a bunch of birds including quite a few pins and greenwingers. she also took tha hunter safety course and i was asked to give a waterfowl talk and that really got me fired up.

im in the process of nailing down a date/time to go and pick up my scull if we dont get pounded with snow again. can't wait to bring her home!!!!

i cant wait to next season already

I sure enjoyed those pictures, Chris. I can see why you have ducks on the brain----with a girlfriend like you have, all I can say is that you are one lucky man.
By the way, very nice job on the drake mallard.
Al

We have tried fishing but its hard when water temp is 33-35 and theres still ice. Moving south is looking better and better. Im also starting to get more interested in private pond management which is a big deal down south.
Alabama might be a little too south though N. carolina looks pretty good

When i was giving the waterfowl talk the first question was are you going to sell your decoys and do you have a business card.

I told everyone that i dont want to and i rather gun them than have them sit on a mantle. Hopefully when i get the bufflehead done for Jode's auction the owner will use it for what it was made for

Someone on here works for NC Fisheries, I bet he might be able to help you out.

Chris, Great job on those dekes! The mallard looks awesome. The hen is coming along nicely. And I really like the shape of the other two. Put them in paint and you have some winners for sure! Keep up the great work. Lots to be proud of there.

Mike,
You are welcome over the house anytime, but I think you should be showing me how to paint "Champ". I think we need to set a date for a carving get together sometime this spring.
Pete
