Ducky day today

Thought I would try a live hunting report. On a good spot right now. Wind is out of the south and it is strong and steady which is not always great but it is great for this one spot. Have to find a little channel to get back here and there is a little bay to be found. Nice island to pull up to that puts the wind directly at my back with open water rightin front. Temps are around 50 and dropping

15 minutes till dekes get set out and then I wait. It is a great day to be out and so far it appears others have slept in. Going to be fun

I'll update if some ducks are seen. Lots of geese so far but no ducks

Have fun Mark, wish it was that time down here! Hard to believe it was in the 80s yesterday and won't make it out of the 50s here today.

Ten minutes to go. Another hunter came out but is quite a bit further downstream. Temps have dropped 6 degrees and the wind has really picked. Hopefully not too much more or it will be a miserable ride back upstream

Blind is up and the gun is loaded. I'm set. Just need ducks. Wish me luck

I blew it. Had 3 coming in with a bunch behind. I waited thinking I'd get all into the dekes. The first three turned and I didn't take the shot. All ducks left.

Got one drake mallard as a single five minutes later.

Two eagles sitting in a tree not 30 yards away. Wish they would leave. Hundreds of crows in the air

The wind has really picked up and I'm a little concerned. Is there such a thing as too windy to duck hunt. Gunna be a long ride back to the Jeep but ill be able to follow the shore and stay out of the really rough water

I sure am enjoying this thread. Glad you pulled down a greenhead. As for blowing it on the other group, it is just called "duck hunting". I know you are having fun.

Glad you have had one, I have been out for a lot less than that. Don't leave it to late mate, remember you have a way to get home.

Good going on the greenhead. On the spot reporting! Film at 11:00? Becareful, keep the bow up and the lifevest on!

Showing winds blowing at 16mph and gusts to 23mph out of the WSW. Probably best to hunker down for awhile if you can.

Mark, I'm packing to head out west for our second "opener" on Sat. Hope this weather change does it's magic. Thanks for sharing your morning, maybe when I get smart enough to have one of those confernal machines I will do the same. We need to talk about the + &- of your new trailer, I was impressed. Got to go now and get by backup boat ready to roll.

Well this has to be one of my worse days hunting as far as screwing up goes. . With the wind the way it is the ducks are coming from my right down the channel I used to get in here. I can't see them until the last minute. I've had more than one flock not 20 yards in front and I've been dinking around, looking the other way or relieving myself from all I have drank this morning. Should have a few more ducks easily. That's why it's hunting right

Guys down for me have had some shooting. I can't see them and don't if they are shooting well or not but they sure are shooting a bunch. Looks like I went to the wrong spot

I'm going to give a few more minutes and call it a day. I am not looking forward to the trip back as the white aps are quite large. The river is quite protected and I can hug the shoreline and will be safe. It is going to be one wet ride home

Should have been shooting crows. I'd have a boatload by now there are so many of them

Mark,

I am happy you can get out and have some fun, I really am. ,,,,,,,,,,, On the other hand, This just plain sucks. Sucks that I have to be inside four window-less walls and be subjected to a real time report of how great it is to be outside. I hate technology. :>) :>)

I hope you had fun.

Dave, Would that be like getting BWCA reports while slaving away in the city???? Not for my case but "poor Mark" having to hear about canoe trips. yukyukyuk. Hope all is well in your windowless world.

NO, because I don't send them out from the BWCAW. (If I could, and I knew it would torment Mark, then I might have to come up with a way to do it.)

Hunting is done. Been home for awhile but had to get some stuff done or the wife will think I've been screwing off the whole day.

The ride back while not fun was not as bad as I imagined it was going to be. Probably took me 3 times longer than normal but I motored slow and took the long protected way back to the Jeep. Not any other boats on the river that I cold see.

Didn't see anyone else at the landing I used either which is unusual. MN is closed right now so there was nothing on that side of the river. Don't know where the guys south of me put in.

All in all a good day. I should have done better but it is all my fault. There were plenty of birds (no teal) just poor hunting. I'll get them tomorrow. 1 shot 1 bird so I guess today was an ammo saving day.

Wind is still a bear. I see my mailbox snapped in half while I was gone. It was rotting and I knew it would need fixing/replacing soon but I guess soon is now. Yet another project. Maybe sometime in December.

A few years back it was so windy that you had to stop leading the birds. they were hanging in the air.
