DuraNautic for blind boat?

I have a DuraNautic 14B that I got pretty cheap. I was wondering if any of you have used this type of boat with a blind? I would be primarily using it on LI Sound in CT, 2 men, 1 dog.

It's a semi vee hull, it has a 20" full transom and is rated for 25HP. I imagine the two middle bench seats will have to be modified but it looks doable.

Any advice will be appreciated.

thanks,

Rob

Hey Rob,

Around here we use our real names. Why don't you paint that yellow boat of yours, that would make a great duck boat.

That boat will work just fine as a boat blind. Just paint it battleship grey or olive. Just remember how big it is & what kind of weather/seas it will handle.
I am looking at replacing my mv jon boat with a semi-v about the same size next year. Going to use it on Mobile Bay & Mississippi Sound.

Building a boat blind is easy, a heck of lot cheaper than buying one too. I use conduit, pvc & military netting from Barre Army Navy for mine. Probably have less than $100-150 in it. I will post a diagram of what I use now when I get to work in the morning. Dont have it on my home computer for some reason.

Here is a scissor blind that a buddy used to use. Works great too.

Here is what I use now. I will try to find some pics of the actual blind on the boat.
I used to use Cerex but the new stuff sucks, rips if you look at it funny.
Military netting from Barre Army Navy I got last year is great, plain brown/green without backing. I doubled it over the support poles, so there is a double layer.

Here it is on the water. Normally I stick about twice that much cane but bottom at this spot is solid sand. Tough to stick cane in those conditions. But the redheads, greater scaup & buffies didnt seem to care.

What you do is spend the next 10-15 years trying out 3-4 different blind types that you'll install on the boat and use with some success, get totally frustrated with the @#$@#!! bench seats always being in the way. Then you finally reach a point where you get tired of it all then dig into your pocket and go buy a TDB.

BTW: you sit on a bucket seat between the benches. You want the blind opening to only be around 7ft by 3.5ft

Sounds like we have had similar experience!
My blind frame hasnt changed much in 12 years, just the material that hangs from it. Based on my expereince with the camo net from Barre, I think I will be sticking with this stuff for a while.
You are so right about the middle bench seats, my next boat will not have them.
A TDB is not in my future, but a Smokercraft Alaskan DLX or Lund SSV is. I like their walk-thru layout.

My blind opening along the top is 4-8' long depending on if I hunt by myself or with a partner. I have panels of camo that I stretch between the support poles to cover up the opening. We also break the cane over the top for additional concealment. The opening is about 3' wide.
