Dying Raffia Grass

Hey guys i was wondering if anyone ever dyed Raffia grass? If so did you use a RIT dye or something else? I just bought some at a craft store for only $2.99 a bundle. I think with a little color change it will work well on my boat blinds as well as on my lay out blind. Just wondering what you guys have done?
Thanks

use twice as many boxes as you think you need, use ALOT of salt in the water, and leave the grass in the dye for A LONG time......

After tying raffia bundles to netting, I lay out plastic to protect the drive way and use a garden sprayer to apply Golden Oak Thompson water seal. Mixing in flat black oil based paint enables a range of color from MO River mud to half rotted corn stalks. It may take a couple of applications but the end product is appropriately splotchy allowing dark and light colors to bleed through. The Thompson provides some water proofing. Dry in the sun. It may seem tacky at first but that helps pick up additional dirt based patina. Decoy bags make good stuff bags for motor covers and other loose pieces.

I use RIT dye with raffia, and would suggest you do some test patches to determine how long. I just did a batch this week and used 1/2 the recommended amount of dye for only 10-20 seconds.

It's netting used to contain live birds at a game farm. They replace their netting every few years and give me the scraps. ben
