Eli Haydell passes.

Just saw this someplace else and am saddened by it. Eli Haydel use to be THE Louisiana duck call maker because his calls worked not because of braggadocios claims and fake 'reality'.
I just have a simple VTM-90 but it does what it was made to do and has lasted for years. He will be missed.

I had the priviledge of meeting Eli at a sport show in the old Kingdome here in Seattle in the mid 80's. What a classy guy he was, and he was always ready to take the time to give you a couple of pointers on becoming a better caller. I'll bet that there have been more ducks taken here in Washington with his DR-85 duck call than all the calls that are now being prostituted on the nightly "reality" shows. The kicker is that he made this top quality product available to everyone for under $20.00!!!!

He will be missed

Sorry to hear. They made a great call. The DR-85 is a staple in the duck call world. It's the only call I blow. Kinda like the Remington 870 of duck calls. I trade Eli years ago some decoys for some custom calls. I treasure the memories of doing that. God rest his soul and prayers for the family. Pat

Pat, I'm with you on the DR-85 & 870 Remington .I'm still using both which were bought in the late 80s. The call has a crack in the barrel with duct tape around it but still works fine. I have had other calls , spent a lot more money for other calls but for calling ducks the DR-85 is hard to beat.Sad day in the duck call world. Phil

That is sad news. His Wood Duck, and Cut Down Speck, calls always worked just fine for me. Never had a problem with any of his calls. Well worth the money. Another legend passes.........
