Eric, have you tried to turn a call yet?

Heres a couple I have been able to get to sound like a duck. These are some cedar limbs that Brian and I cut on our bodoc quest a couple of weeks ago. Edward Lindsey met us there and suggested that I cut some of the dead lower limbs of of a huge cedar and turn them. Thanks Edward, they turned out great!

Very nice Shawn. Especially since you are less than 10 calls into it.
Now if we can just get us a portable sawmill for some mock orange, we could do some damage.

Just before I left town on business (I'm in SD, CA) I fired up my lathe and turned a test spindle. I learned two things 1) I need a bench grinder to sharpen my dull tools, and 2) I'm going to need a lot of practice just getting the feel of woodturning before I think about making calls as nice as yours. I told Thomas we would try making a few calls and that maybe I could get you to come over to my shop to show us a thing or to and you could have some fun on my Oliver lathe.

You up for it?

Kyle,
I have a jig that I use to cut out the profile and cork notch. The yellow insert is bodoc, the other is cedar. The bodoc will ring pretty good.
