Ethanol gas!! Off season storage?

Adding ethonal is another faux-green mandate. The ethanol fuel is bad for equipment leading to breakdowns and even early replacement. Burning ethanol uses up crop production land that could be used for food or just left idle. Ethanol has less energy in it than regular gasoline. As you may have guessed I am not a fan.

I just heard that Obama wants more ethanol in fuel. Locally we may still have one source of ethanol free fuel, but I am not sure. Even if we do, not everyone has that option.

Andy, I think if you look you will find that lobbying for ethanol in gas is mostly coming from folks who grow corn, not environmentalists. I'm not saying the ethanol lobbyists aren't wrapping themselves up in the green flag--just that their real motives have more to do with profits for corn growers than with any real environmental benefits. I'm not a fan either--and the overproduction of corn to supply ethanol is linked to the nutrient issues and Gulf of Mexico dead zone we are discussing over in the Extinction thread.

I was told 30 days was life expectancy with ethonal fuel. stabil helps . Do not reply on in line fuel filter in engine. Instal a canister fuel filter before the engine. 10 mil I had that happen to me twice. 4 strokes seem more temperamental with the water in fuel

Ethanol was offered as a substitute for MTBE-Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether. They are both fuel oxygenators, increasing octane rating of gasoline blends. They both draw oxygen into the combustion reaction, resulting in cleaner emission levels. MTBE leaking from in-ground tanks became a hot-button issue with the EPA after the data came forward that it was a carcinogen.

There are two sites in Marquette that EPA monitors due to extensive ground water pollution via MTBE. One is a gasoline station and the other is a trucking company yard. They are both located in close proximity to each other. Each property owner claims that the other is at fault as the principal MTBE source. Both are located on higher ground above a blue ribbon trout stream, the Chocolay River.

From what I remember, alcohol molecule up to five carbons long can "hold" water molecules in suspension. A straight particle separating fuel filter accomplishes nothing for water removal. It must be a water separating filter. Even then, I suspect phase separation of the fuel would have to occur as well. I think a water molecule is .001 or .0001 microns. Ethanol molecule size is .44nM.

I run ethanol gas during the season because it gets used up quickly and the nearest ethanol free gas station out of the way for me. Then towards the end of the season I make it a point to use non ethanol because I don't know how much gas will be left in the tank and when the boat will be used again. This website will help you find a station that sells ethanol free gas.

I use Ethanol free gas in everything except my truck. At the end of the season I add Sea Foam to the tank. I've got an 18 gallon internal tank in the Lund.

Try to use only Ethanol free if possible.
