Filson waterfowlers hat question

I just picked up an XXL Filson Waterfowlers hat in advantage wetlands camo. I had looked over the Filson site for hat sizing and my head circumference fell right between an XL and XXL, so I thought maybe the XXL would be just what I needed since I had one of these years ago in XL and thought it was too snug. Anyway, the new hat is too loose and I'm looking for ideas to tighten up the fit a little. I know that if I wash it, I will have to re-wax it. Has anybody here ever had this problem and successfully shrunk one to fit better? The last thing I want to do is ruin it. I can't just run out and buy another one new since these have been discontinued for some time.
Thoughts?

Wet It and wear it,if still doesn't fit right wet it with warm water and wear it, it should shrink If it's the wool model

I've found that mine is not the warmest hat i have,
so I would be happy if it was big, then I could throw on another thin wool cap under the filson hat
may be a blessing in disguise

mine is tight so I have to switch off to another hat if the temps fall or I get cold during the day.

Thanks for the responses guys! George, I haven't had long hair since the 80's. Now, I don't think I have enough to fill the hat even if I did grow it out!
I guess more investigation is needed here. Either it's too big to the point where I could wear a beanie under it, or it's close enough to shrink a little. I'll have to play around with it to see...
It has a wool interior but waxed cotton exterior. I wonder how it will act if I try to shrink it a little...

you can try a "hatband" inside the inner sweat flap. try cardboard to see if it helps, then you can figure out something permanent, or leave the cardboard, lol.

Hmmm... I might have some unused wool felt boot liners laying around here that might work if not too thick. Thanks for the idea!
