Had some 65 degree weather yesterday followed by a promised fairly strong north wind overnight. Thought I would give it a go this morning and see what the ducks are thinking. Got out to an entirely empty slough that stayed that way all morning. What a simple pleasure and an event to cherish. Didn't have the best set up wind wise but did the best I could with what was presented to me. Fifteen minutes before legal, I had a minimum of 40 ducks all within 30 yards of where I had set up. They quacked and quacked bringing in even more. As I haven't really seen a duck since opener, this was getting interesting fast. Right up until a couple of minutes before legal when they all got up and flew away.

Anyway, the north wind must have sent some down as there was flock after flock of ducks coming in wings cupped, feet down. Had I bee able to shoot straight, it would have been a quick morning. Beautiful day and one worth repeating tomorrow. I believe it is WI deer opener which makes the slough quiet.

Same as western NY deer gun. We just got our first migration weather today. If they are not coming now, only God knows when they will. There has been one heck of a Grebe migration up to this...

Glad you had a great morning.
Ducks and coots have really shown up in numbers here the last 3 nights.
If we get a good cold snap during the full moon, we should have a great opened the day after Thanksgiving.

Good for you, Mark. Sometimes you might have to pinch yourself to think that you had it all to yourself. Then to see all those ducks makes me think you were on the "X". Congrats. What kind of ducks are you seeing besides mallards?

Got out scouting this morning. Found a pile of gadwalls and surprisingly, a mess of divers.
And they happened to be sitting on my opening day spot!
Seems like a lot of ducks have shown up this week. And coot. With the full moon and a cold front coming, we should have a pretty good opener.
