Here is my first carved head, so let the critiques begin! Hopefully you can tell the species… I started with this one because of Willy McDonald’s tutorial on “theduckblind.com”.

I would like to thank Paul for squaring me away with one of his carving kits- had no idea where to start with supplies and would not have taken the time to figure it out. I’m kicking myself for not picking Jeff King’s brain more when I lived close to him…. Hope to do a Canvasback next.

Take care!

Bill,
Looking good. Keep the chips flying.
Now, in regards to picking Jeff's brain, be careful there. He might not have a lot to spare. bwaaaaaaaaaa, couldn't resist. ;)

Bill,

The neck needs more rounding. It still has the square look. Remember: "There are no flat spots on a duck" - best advise I ever got.

Bill,

Can't tell for sure from the pictures. Why don't you make six more just like this one and send them to me for a close up inspection.

PS. Wish my first head was that good.

Well done Bill. You are off to a great start. I've had the priviledge of helping a few young fella's get started carving and very few first tries turn out as good as yours. It looks very symmetrical to me and you seem to have good eye. Keep up the good work!

Looking good Bill! You are on your way to a rig that should put em in range next year. Keep up the good work!
