so the puddler quest up here in CT has pretty much dried up. but the season is still in full swing so we decicded to give the diver hunting thing a swing. i bought 2 dozen bluebills and a dozen buffies and rigged them on long lines a while back. we took them out one sunday to practice setting them out and im glad i did. setup is a bit different than singles. so we headed out put out four long lines and waited for shooting light. a few minutes before there was already a buffie in the dekes and we knew it was going to be an awesome day.

it was just like the TV shows we could watch the birds lock on to the dekes a few hundred yards away (popping through the fog and mist) and them come in, boots on a few yards away from where we were sitting. the closest bird came in at 13 ft and the furthest one came in at 25 yards.

it was an incredible day with a lot of shooting those birds are tough! i cant wait to get the long lines back out.

Way to go, Chris. Nothing wrong with this kind of addiction. By the way, I like that diver on the far right side.

Chris that dog looks like a BEAR what in the world do youfeed him? What were the problems with the long lines on sundays.practce day if any?

Nice hunt. My first diver hunt lead me to a different sort of disease within waterfowling. Longlines, dozens and dozens more decoys, layout boat, tender boat...

Good luck the rest of the year.

Its my girlfriends dog and believe me dont bring up the weight issue if you value your life. Wind can be troublesome at least if its not blowing the right way

Nice photo.
If the dog is too heavy, try a different food. I switched my Lab to a grain fee food. And it helped drop her weight a bit. The less expensive dog foods use fillers, and by products as well as grains. Ingredients dogs don't need to eat..

Nice job on the divers Chris! They are a rip and pretty much all I chase after the first couple of week of the season.

Congrats! Just a word of advice, Never go again! If you do, it'll just be the beginning of a lifetime accumulation of stuff....

Richard Pryor once called golf the heroin of sports. I'm pretty sure he meant to say hunting goldeneyes, not golf...

Glad you had a great hunt!

I've seen tons of bluebills and some ringers down here but still have not seen the first buffie this year..
