First wind

Well, It wasn't epic, and Kodi didn't do much but he did what was asked, then he posed.

The wind was better than yesterday.

I think grassing the motor made it hide a little better....

That is a nice group of pictures, Phil. Good to see some feathers in Kodi's mouth. Glad you caught that pose.

Great series of pictures Phil. And you'd better not walk too far from the boat or you'll never find it. Nice job with the motor. It was good when you added the black but now it literally disappears. Did you get the trailer light fixed?

Thanks again for the ride along, great pictures.
I notice you do not use a blind on your TDB style boats any particular reason?
They do seem to hide better but can't be as comfortable as sitting in my directors chairs.
Just wondering.

Bill,

I agree that they are not as comfortable (sorry Jim) but, I tend to think the more comfortable a boat blind is, the harder it is to hide. If I sit on the throwable PFD only my head sticks up. if I sit on a milk crate, mid chest and head stick up. right or wrong I don't think I scare birds. With my configuration I do not have to fight with a blind... Kodi sits/lays on top. Can see what is going on...and my decoys are all stored under deck. I did make a cloth high blind for my Honker, but it never gets used. I would have to design one for the Scaup as well. I also do d it difficult to make the cloth high blinds blend in, as you need to attach vegetation to them. Maybe, it isn't needed and the movement is what truly flares birds, but that is my methodology. :)

Hey, Phil, in that last picture with Kodi on top of the boat it looked like he was picked for the color of the camo scheme. If you had used that dark shadow just behind the bow of the boat, would you have replaced Kodi with a black lab?

Al... I thought I liked you... I ALSO apparently have not made good choices in the people I hang out with! A LAB????? I might as well make other bad choices... Maybe I should have voted for someone else... Shoot a Mossberg... what is next? Drive Chevy????? A LAB!!!!! sheesh. I do not even think that another Chessie will replace him...

Speaking of bad choices,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I guess Chessies are not as fussy as Labs, when it comes to choosing a hunting partner.

That may or may not be true Dave but once they make up their mind - Don't EVER get between a Chessie and his partner. Also, you have it right, Labs and other dogs may have a master/slave relationship but a Chessie only hunts with his partner.

That is the truth Pete. I'm still getting used to a Lab's personality after having a Chessie for nearly a decade. Thanks for the photos, I would love to hunt the big rivers some day! Snake, Columbia, Missouri, Mississippi, the list goes on and on........

I am hopeful!!! We have gone from float tube weather to small craft advisory for the coming weekend. Being aware and understanding consequences of actions will need to be understood. SW at 29 gusting to 48mph will create problems in the open pools on Pool 9. NW at 20-26 will as well. That is the forecast for Friday and Saturday. I think I will appreciate the Scaup vs a flat bottom.

Pete -

My late gunning partner had many Chessies. Some of the best waterfowl and upland dogs I ever hunted with. His best female, Miss Clo, aka "Sweetness" loved hunting with me. From doves to ducks, geese, cranes, pheasants & chickens, but after the shot, she always took the birds to Jim. Only when Jim left to go scouting with one of his male Chessies, and Clo stayed with me, did she bring birds to my hand. When she pasted, I wept. I have many photo's and very fond memories of her and her master. Tain't no dog like a Chessie far as I'm concerned.
