Florida Hunting

My parents just moved to south central Florida. They live on Lake June (full name of the lake is Lake June in Winter). They live 30-45 minutes or so north of lake Oakechobee.

Question - Does anyone know of good duck hunting on Lake June, Lake Istapoga or other central lakes in Florida? I plan to visit my parent sfor Thanksgiving and x-mas and would like to hunt for aday or two when I am there.

I drive down to Lake Okeechobee several times each season to hunt the King's Bar area out of Okie Tanti. There is a good launch ramp there and a short run down the Kissimee River to the lake. I hunt ringbills, teal and an occasional scaup, whistler or Florida Mallard.

there are several good duck hunting options in your area...st.johns system. merit island NWR, okeechobee, STA's, etc... you will need quota permits for some areas so check the florida game com. web site. the sta's are a poor mans special, the hunting is good and a canoe will get you by because no motors of any form are allowed.

a "florida mallard "or mottled duck is a sub- species of the mottled duck of texas way, from what ive been told. both sexes look like a hen greenhead mallard, except for the bill, drakes yellow, hens orange with black spots, it is said they are more closely related to the black duck .mottled ducks are a year yound resident to florida and we are having a problem with the mottles interbreeding with the tame domestic greenheads. we are alowed olny one mottled per day. we also have fulvus tree duck and black bellied tree ducks down here also, they are a kind of miniature goose like tropical duck that give a raspy whistle. i killed a fulvus this morning, called him in with a pintail wistle made to sound like a tree duck.
