For anyone following PPF mud motors

Jake at PPF sent me a couple of photos of handle assembly he's using for the trigger throttle option on his motors. It's similar in design to what I had on the Rickshaw but this one is black anodized. The Rickshaw is bright aluminum. This is what I ordered. Although I like the long grip he's using my hands are small so I may have to trim the grip in order to get the throttle handle closer to the end of the handle. As is I'd have to choke up and I don't want to loose any leverage. It's embossed with the words Bikeglove. I don't know if it's a motorcycle or bicycle grip.

Hey Ed -

If I am seeing the picture correctly, that "brake lever" is adjustable as far as its 'throw" goes. You shoudl be able to turn that silver knob and get the handle closer or farther away from the tiller.

I would be questioning the placement of this throttle. In my opinion is is set too far back from the end of the tiller. This could really throw off your balance point. What I can't see is if you ahve the ability to move this brake lever up or down the tiller handle. If you want to move it farther towards the end of the tiller, you will need to make sure there is enough cable there to do so.

Something to think about.

Its not that the lever/mount is too far away from the end. Its that its a two finger brake lever, which is rather small and short. It will be in reverse use when compared to its normal use on a BMX bike - index and middle finger pulling. You will end up using your pinky finger and ring finger instead for this set up. This allows for a more solid grip with your index finger and middle finger at the end of the handle. You will need to adjust the length of throw to not crush your middle finger on the handle.

My BPS stainless lever is about the same length but sits farther off the bar to give more room for the fingers that are gripping the handle end.

Think that is going to work out well once you get it on the boat and use it a few times.

Mark and Ray, I think this handle is going to be just fine. Mark the Rickshaw is very similar other than the shorter grip. Yes I may have to modify the length of the grip. Ray, That crushing the middle finger was an issue I never could fix on the Rickshaw. I hope the adjustment is better on this motor. At any rate the Rickshaw was the same. You operated the throttle with your ring and pinky. The spring return on the little Honda motor didn't have any resistance. It'll be interested to see what this larger motor has for a return spring. If it's like the motor on my pressure washer (or most any motor this size) I shouldn't notice any resistance when using my pinky when adjusting the throttle.
