Forum Abuse - Registration Disabled

I've been getting upwards of 300 bogus registrations a day out of some asshole with a chinese IP address. They are so numerous it's nearly impossible to separate the good from the bad. To combat this problem I am temporarily disabling registration while I work out a solution or the loser goes away. Thanks for your patience.

I wonder if it was the same one that spammed my email account that I only use on this forum? Some plywood reseller I'd never heard of...
 
Maybe its that Nigerian prince I just wired $10,000 to.

Makes you wonder, can someone really not find somehting better to do with their time?
 
Over on the Alaska Outdoors Directory they spent the summer dealing with a spam bot from china. Its a V Bulletin based forum and the spam bot would hit the first forum in the list about every three hours. The site admin did not publish what they did to finally stop the spam. Maybe an IP block was devised for new accounts.

One of the membership account rules they created a few years ago to ward of PM and email spam was to set it up so that you could not send or receive PMs until you had been a member for 2 months and have over 25 posts. That did nothing to stop the posting spam though.
 
I have a friend leaving for China next week - see if you can get the little buggers address - my friend would love to give him a couple rounds of #3's for ya........
 
Eric, I'm moderator/admin for the gator boats forum. I've started blocking any ip from china. You can hit them all by putting in the first part and then asterisks for the rest.

Maybe they read "One Second After" by William R. Forstchen.

In the book, the Chinese kill our computer systems, nationwide. After everything shuts down, rioting, murders, and we basically lose control of everything, they step in to "help us out" while actually taking over the country.

Interesting read.

There's not a punishment too severe for these idiots that maliciously plant viruses and other unwanted stuff for the sole purpose of causing problems. No telling how many millions-billions of dollars it's cost people to fix the problems or have to get new computers.
 
I find that comparison really disturbing, especially since Obama bent over backwards to make work with Republicans during the whole debt limit/deficit debacle.
And that coming from a life long Republican.
Thats all I'll say about that.
 
A lot of people tend to forget the housing bubble burst and the recession began under Bush's watch.
