Fuel line hose clamps and pliers?

What are the name of the pliers used to clamp the fuel line hose clamps that pinch closed? The kind that you would get if you went to a marine dealer t have them make you up new fuel lines.

Thanks guys.

I don't know the name you are looking for but IMO take them off and replace them with regular stainless steel hose clamps. I have one of the pinch ones right now that is leaking and I need to replace it tomorrow.

The screw clamps work well but ethanol seems to soften the fuel line and allow leaks despite the clamp. In an emergency or when the line starts sucking air I have used a couple of zip ties pulled tight to seal fuel lines up.

They actually make a zip tie designed specifically to be used as a hose clamp. A standard zip tie will not make 100% contact and will not always compress the hose correctly to prevent a leak. The factory installed zip ties used on fuel lines are what should be used if you decide to use zip ties as your clamping method.

There are of course several sources for these style of zip ties.

Dave, You are absolutely right and I think they work pretty well. That said I use the screw type, they are common and when they leak you can fix with a Leatherman. ;-)) The stock metal ones are a PIA.

Irrigation guys use a similar clamp, but larger. s/s gas line clamps are great if you get the proper size. Local shops don't stock a lot of sizes... Keep a couple in the boat...

Would this be the right kit and pliers?

Those look like the ones. I personally went with these side jaw pinchers from McMaster-Carr.

Mercury had a special zip tie that worked very well. Not sure if they still have them. The supplier that I get shrink electrical connectors from had them a while back but I didn't get any. Turns out I should have as I have needed them a couple of times. I have used the metal one with good results.

line sucked in air this morning quickly tightened the screw and pumped the ball first pull it fired up.

that is much better than messing with a spring clip as you are floating down the river.

also make sure you have a tool box with you, it is always nice to know you can fix something if you have a problem
