Fun friday

Cool.
What in the world do you feed captive eiders? And don't they have heat stroke in Shreveport????

Ya feed them Mazuri Seaduck Chow. They keep them on a high-volume circulation pond, and move them in an airconditioned room during the hottest part of summer. Jacob said they don't have any problems, although the long-tails didn't do too well. They have Spectacled, King, 3 subspecies of common, including Northern, harlequin, and all mergansers except Brazilian.

That is quite a head! That had to be fun to get that close.
Carl already asked the question that I had in mind.

Wow, that is pretty neat to see a collection of eiders that far south. The zoo in Sioux Falls has, well at least had them last time I was there, spectacles, commons and some crazy euro-trash mergansers. I was surprised they had them looking good, that has to take a lot of work down there.
