Gas Line Question -- Why my motor doesn't suck!

So I have a '74 Evinrude 15hp that I bought used (no big surprise) and recently had the carb and fuel pump rebuilt. The motor runs like a sewing machine, but it won't pull gas. I had to manually squeeze the priming bulb in order to keep it running.

I was wondering if the mechanic reassembled the fuel pump incorrectly? The motor was pulling fuel before the carb and fuel pump was rebuilt.

Any guesses as to what might be going on?

David, Two things to try. Switch out with a known good tank and line. Take it back to the guy who"rebuilt" your pump. Good luck and remember -motors don't suck fuel, it is pushed to the carb by atmospheric pressure. Make sure the tank is vented, take the cap off.

David,
I had the same problem on a carb at work. Owner had had it rebuilt and it would not run without the bulb being worked after it got running. Ended up being a misplaced gasket during the rebuild. The kit comes with a few in it and the wrong one had been installed. Easy fix as it was only four screws to get it apart and off the motor, but it took a while to find the culprit.
Check the easy things mentioned, but I bet you have a blocked passage in the carb body that is covered by a gasket that is not supposed to be there. The hole is small but it wont pump fuel without it.

It would be a good idea if you plan on living with this motor to get the factory service book for it(Ebay-used). Not the SELOCK publishing nock off. The OEM book will have the details of things like the carb layout.

check the DIP TUBE on your fuel tank. some of the older ones don't like the new gas and deteriorate.
